What's going on with Clifton Garrett? I thought this kid was supposed to be a stud LB'er... Wouldn't it seem a bit prudent, since Welter seems to be physically under matched a lot of times, to get Beckwith and Garrett in the middle more often, and plug that middle with those 2 big bodies?
You guys act like all a linebacker has to do is be big. Did you see Beckwith give up a 66-yard TD last week from being out of position? Have you noticed that his pass coverage skills seem a bit . . . limited? Garrett still has lot to learn about SEC football. Anyone who things the problems on this team are all about Welter is a damn fool.
It is not like Welter does any better. He is too timid and too slow. Plus he is often overpowered. In general though our LB's are poorly coach. I think Chavis has gotten a pass but the last few years he has blundered several losses with his D. He is said to be a LB guru, yet they are the poorest group on the D. They have absolutely no fundamentals in tackling and angles. Many are JR's, so no excuse for them not, "getting it." Kwon Alexander is an excellent player, but outside him no one has shown much. Debo has a few nice plays this year but overall a disappointment with the flashes he shown early on. I think size and coaching are a big reason for the failure at LB.
No one thinks that. Not sure why your defensiveness of Welter led you there. Obviously it's eating you up inside. The DTs are soft (I have spoken about that at length) and the 2 DEs don't get any pressure on the QB (I have said this on a weekly basis). Beckwith needs to learn on the job. Bottom line. Let him make the horrendous mistakes. It's still so much better than #31 doing absolutely nothing on the field. Beckwith will get better and quickly enough.
Agreed, let Beckwith learn on the fly. You learn way more ingame than you do in practice. Again, I have to put some of that on Chavis for not doing a better job coaching up the LB's
The obsession is yours, I'm just not letting you get away with bullshit. And he is doing so. This is the kind of bullshit I'm talking about. He's one of the leading tacklers on the team and you just lie and say he does nothing.
I'm not sure if Red realizes he is now out on an island with his Welter support. Sure there are others that won't say negative things about LSU players (understandably), but there is no one left on this board that thinks #31 belongs on the field (took some of them a while to finally realize it).
My obsession isn't with #31, it's with LSU putting totally inept players out on the field and allowing them to continue to play. I bashed Loston for being on the field equally as much last season. He barely made a practice squad in the NFL.
