At least he's got the skins on the wall. It beats the hell out of paying $102MM just for the right to negotiate with a nip who's never seen major league hitters.
Any one else have a problem with a guy who waits and sees whats best for him halfway through the year? Kind of takes away from the team part of it.
I think his age and the length of the season also play some small part in that. Also being able to play with his sons has been extremely important to Roger, and I suspect he struck a balance between that consideration, and pitching for someone that could actually support him, and even win a championship. You also have to consider that it was Petite that talked him into Houston in the first place. Winning his first championship with the Yankees also has to be a factor. Roger is still a fierce competitor. Though I see your point about the team aspect. But are there many professional examples in any sport for our kids or us to point to see a sense of sportsmanship or team before the player? Probably the biggest problem I have with pro sports in general.
I was about to post something about that. I think it's total BS how he does this. He needs to just hang it up and retire if he can't go a whole season.
He's probably the best right handed pitcher of the modern era, so he can do whatever he wants to. A career ERA of 3.10 with 90 percent of this career in the ERA-bloating AL in an era of live balls and steroids. Good grief.
TEAM stopped meaning anything in pro sports a LONNNNNNGGGGG time ago. That's why we're so surprised and astonished when pro players actually PLAY like a team. Reason #387 why college sports is mo betta than pro sports. Like Seinfeld said "You're just rootin' for the laundry"
Of course not. What difference does that make? It is "professional" baseball. How does it impact the team aspect? I can't make sense of this post.
