He may not pitch again this year. He's right at the border of innings pitched that Theo stes for rookies. Another rook for Boston, Jacoby Ellsbury, has been playing a lot of late. He is FAST becoming one of the Fenway favorites. He's already getting a standing O everytime he steps to the plate. He just hit a 3 run shot against Toronto.:thumb: Edit: Dude just added a triple to his stats for the night.
Word is that since the Sept. roster expansion to 40, Bucholtz may be worked in for middle relief apperances--in games with a comfortable lead--where he can pitch what is, in a sense, a pitchers standard bullpen session but with live batters. That would allow our pen to rest up a bit and he wouldn't be over-working his arm. He's got talented stuff, and in the post season, it's hard to imagine him replacing Beckett, Schilling, Dice-K and Wake in a first-round series no matter how shaky Schilling and Dice-K have looked lately. ...But he can give us quality relief by not having to over-work our bullpen and getting them rested for a post-season run.
Him in middle releif would be huge. Especially if it meant being able to "skip" past Gagne, and right to Hideki or Papelbon.
