Tiger Stadium, the crowd, and Saturday night in Baton Rouge, are a big recruiting draw for LSU. Don't forget that the fans are part of the process also. Congratulations to the Tiger Fans, who make our players feel welcome and appreciated. http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071220/SPORTS0202/712200331/1028/rss05
If there are any concerns about him, they are a) qualifying, which has been discussed quite a bit already but also b) he's pretty small for a wide receiver. He's listed at 6'1" 180#, which is more like cornerback size than wide receiver size. I'm interested to see how he fits onto the team.
Your concerns are unfounded. Jared Mitchell was listed at 5'11" ...and Early Doucet was 6'1" when he signed with LSU out of high school. Also, Byrd is only 6'2" and Doucet is currently listed at 6'2".... As for the weight, T. Tolliver is only 5 lbs' heavier but 3 inches taller....and he doesn't seem to suffer much from only weighing 185....
Umm.. You may notice Mitchell hasn't exactly flourished in his two years in purple & gold. Byrd has played well despite not being a big receiver. Doucet is an incredible athlete who is that little bit closer to traditional WR height than is Tolliver. Plus, you have to consider the possibility/likelihood that if C. Tolliver says he's 6'1", chances are he's more like 6'0" and possibly less. Fact is, the dude is short for a wide receiver, which is a concern. Granted, some receivers have made quite a career despite not being the size of a small forward. Steve Smith comes to mind, of course. It is harder though.
Then I guess Mitchell is 5'10" and Doucet is 6'0" or 6'1" then since they all lie about how tall they are.... And a little FYI...the most decorated WR in LSU history (that's the title you get for winning an award for being the BEST WR in the country), Josh Reed, stands at a whopping 5'10" and another former Tiger great WR, Devery Henderson is 5'11".... Basically, what I'm showing you is that there were/are MORE VERY productive WR's to come through LSU that weren't taller than 6'1". You don't HAVE to be 6'3" or taller to be effective. At 17 or 18 years old, I think it's safe to say that C. Tolliver can still grow a little. If not, he'll be fine. He'll have Moffitt's training program put some muscle on him and he'll be 195-205 lbs before he leaves LSU. Book it!
It's possible that the listings on LSUsports.net are exaggerated, but the recruiting websites are notoriously unreliable in their measurements. They're almost all reported by the athletes themselves, and it's almost expected that they will add an inch or two to their heights, or shave a tenth or two off their 40 times. Wow, you're really good at talking down to people. I've never seen a school that teaches condescension as a class, but if there is, I'm sure you'd ace it.
For most WRs, height is not an issue. Rivals is high on the 6'3" guys because of Calvin Johnson & other tall receivers in the league. That's what they think should be the prototype WR, but most WRs don't try to outjump DBs & their routes don't put them in that position.
Tolliver is the same height as Florida's Percy Harvin & Chris has been timed at 10.71 in the 100M. Not as fast as Trindon, but who is? Also Tim Molton is way underrated IMO. His coach sasy he's the most athletically gifted athlete to come out of there since Rondell Mealey. Many have compared him to Craig Davis.
