I still think Wittingham should get a look. He's got a MWC in '08, an overall record of 100-47, and is 9-1 in bowls including a 2008 Sugar over Saban/Bama. Makes $3.3M/yr.
He's coached in Utah for almost 20 years. He is probably a Morman. Wouldn't fit the culture of south Louisiana
That's what I keep struggling with when I try to imagine a fit. There are more than a handful of schools in FBS play where a decent coach can get a team to that nine win mark; occasionally hitting double digits. But, without that fit, those good seasons can be an anomaly.
I'll take an Amish for head coach, just win. The road games would be a logisistical nightmare, however, those horse and buggy rides....yikes.
I've thought too that Peterson is a heck of a coach. I'm pretty sure some other schools threw money at him before he went to U-dub. He stayed put and then moved over to UW. I think it will be hard to get him out of that part of the country. It would be a culture shock as well as a weather shock. I love my home state of Louisiana but have spent a couple of years in Colorado, there is no comparison. Seeing what he is doing in the Pac10 so far, he is showing that his success at Boise was not strictly due to him getting his players up for the big games. He can coach. He is probably a NW area lifer though.
TWELVE....Pac 12. Nope. He has shown a willingness to move to SoCal. He's also a Cali native, educated in central Cali, and coached back East.
Thanks for the correction uscvball. I keep forgetting they changed the name of the conference to accurately represent the schools in their conference, unlike the other 2 BIG conf. I should've said NW lifer from this stage on. Although like mentioned, a move to Cali would be viable since the weather is good and your close to that region of the country. The West Coast and NW is just beautiful and if that is something a coaching family places high on their priority list, it would be hard to pull them to the deep south or Bayou country. What did he do in SoCal? I sure would take him though, he is a pretty well known commodity.
