I guess he took the offer at the camp as saying he could pledge anytime. Instead, he has to wait for an offer in the mail. Slight mistake and I hope it doesnt cause embarrasement and ill feelings towards LSU for him.
Heh... Well, if that's truly the case, I doubt it would cause ill feelings....at least I hope not! But if a recuit has to wait till the official offer letter arrives before committing is the way things go, then I don't guess it should matter. I mean, if the coaching staff verbally tells Martin, "we're offering you, committ any time (but implying that "any time" means "once you have the letter"), then it's all good in the long run... At least in my eyes.
To clear things up for you all about Chris - here is a quote from him in TD- "For anyone reading this! This is Chris Martin. I have made it clear that I will be commiting to LSU. I have a commitable Scholarship. It was offered to me by letter from Les Miles. Quote, "As the head football coach of the LSU Tigers, I am offering you a full athletic scholarship to teh Louisiana State University. I have confirmed my commitment to my recruiting coordiantor. And will be confirming it with Les Miles in a short time. Thank you all for you support and GEAUX TIGERS!" He made his decision to commit during a vacation time. Had he known this, he would have waited to go online with his decision. And the offer came in the mail 2 weeks before he went to camp. :geauxtige
Thanks for the info, and WELCOME to TigerForums! We have some knowledgeable folks and we have some fun folks. Post away, I hope you enjoy it!
He's still saying all this stuff too. Still not listed as commited but planning to speak to Miles Monday. He's definitely LSU all the way but says because Miles has been busy, he hasn't been able to talk to him. Read where Martin said he is pretty confident that Miles will welcome his commitment decision. In fact, he said, "When I do talk to him I think he is going to say that he is happy that I am coming to LSU," Have no idea if it'll happen or not but it doesn't sound 100% to me. Kinda "Ify" words there, but maybe he's erring on the side of caution for the obvious that "It ain't done til it's done".
I hope Chris understands that even if Miles doesn't accept his commitment on Monday, it doesn't mean he doesn't want him to play for LSU. It just means that at this time, there MAY be someone they feel a little better about in terms of immediate productivity and/or a position of need. If that happens, Chris should just wait it out and keep in contact with the staff and sooner or later his time will come. We're all rooting for Chris to suit up in the P&G, he seems to bleed it as much as we do.
Chris's situation sounds like it may be an illustration of the difference between an "offer" and a "commitable offer", which is more than the difference between it being verbal and it being written. Chris insists he has a commitable offer, and I guess we'll know soon.
