i have no problem with it if there is a good reason for the switch---like, not being able to get on the team of "your" country. the US teams have many members that were not born nor raised in the US. i have a problem with the hot french swimmer that wanted to switch to the italian team that her boyfriend swam for. they told her to get lost though.
They did talk about her on NBC and even interviewed her about her decision to play for Russia. During the interview it seemed that Team USA did not want her, and since she really wanted to play in the Olympics, she picked Russia. But there is more to the story. Apparently, she got a lucrative contract playing for the Russian professional team which pays much more than in the U.S. Russia wanted her last fall to play for their country; at first she wasn't as interested. She was on the U.S. list of thirty players for the try-out; she , however, DID NOT show up for the try out, apparently because of concerns of jeopardizing the Russian contract. Russian put her on a fast track for a Russian passport, therefore clearing her to join the Russian team. What bothered me more in this case is why she was portrayed in one way on TV (or why she portrayed it as team USA not wanting her during the interview) when there is more to the story. Part of that could also be due to the fact that she doesn't feel she has a chance of making the team, judging from the tremendous depth of the current roster on the Women's team.
