i didn't mean that as a stab at zach lee at all, but i honestly can't judge a great high school player on how he'll do in college. they all look phenomenal at that level, but very few make that next step. i hope that ZL does pan out for the better.
That's what you said. It came off more like "Miles has lost the team" and not like "Chris Garrett is a whiney bitch" though. If what you've said is true I'm glad he's gone.
Listened to Bryan Lazarre on the Buddy Songy show and he has talked with both sides on the matter and it doesn't seem like a big anomaly as it is being made out to be. Basically, around 5 guys a year get a letter in the mail saying their scholarship will not be renewed and it is standard procedure in the NCAA. Then the players who get the letter have a meeting with Miles to discuss what they have to see to earn a scholarship for the season. Miles laid down what he needed to do and Garrett wasn't receptive/willing to go that route and asked for a release. He also mentioned that Miles got wind that Garrett was thinking about a transfer and may have been a motivation for the scholarship not being renewed and to gauge if he really wanted to be here. Lazarre also mentioned what we have already heard about Garrett. He was struggling with the offense and wasn't making a big push for playing time. He also discussed that young guys who come in with older guys in front of them sometimes are content at being where they are on the depth chart and sometimes makes them complacent in preparation. Maybe that was our motivation for giving him a lot of one-on-one time with Crowton.
I think the fact that Garrett is no longer here will have little to do with Lee's final choice and there is no certainty that Lee will live up to expectations.
We often times lose track of the fact that we are dealing with 18-22 year old young men. One may be a model citizen today and a royal pain in the a** tomorrow. I speak from practical experience as a parent of two boys who are now grown men with kids of their own. And despite all of the hype, media attention, number of stars *****, etc. a hot-shot, all star high school player sometimes doesn't pan out at the collegiate level. Recruiting has never been and never will be an exact science.
One of the few intelligent posts in this thread. Kudos, young lady.:thumb: There were other intelligent posts, but there were a lot of...er...not so intelligent ones.
excellent post! and the coaches see them every day and work with them and are much better suited to know if this is the case, more so than us yahoo's on a message board. and i still contend that clm knows is ass will be in a sling if this doesnt work out and whatever happened to release him was not done lightly.
not only that, but it seems like everyone is discounting his love of baseball. the kid has already had numerous quotes talking about how pumped up he is to be playing ball for mainieri. i haven't read similar quotes about him professing his love about playing football at LSU. there is a good chance he won't excel at both, then what? does he pass on baseball to focus on football or does he stick to the one thing he knows he can make millions doing? from what i have read the dude wants to come to LSU, but it's more because of baseball and than football. for CLM to be putting that much stock into a guy who may not even stay on campus, he must show some great kind of promise. i must be on a lot of people's ignore list because i already mentioned this like five times (three times in this thread alone.) also, it could be the cooperation of both CLM and CPM in allowing students to play both sports that makes him want to come to LSU. but in reality, how likely is it that he is able to excel in both? i'd say it's not really likely at all.
From the author of some of the other intelligent posts...yet another. I think it's funny that so many that have posted on here had in their head that CG was the best on the team. Based on what?? Please don't tell me the spring game...if that was any indicator, Murphy would be polishing his two Heismans about right now. So easy to sit here and speculate, but it's amazing how many truly believe they actually know better than the coaches.
