The fact of the matter is that Z. Lee will only start one year at best. He will probably only be here for three years. So regardless of whether not he turns out to be a stud, LSU will need to go recruit other QBs. He won't get a chance to start until year 2 at the earliest, if at all while J. Lee and JJ are here.
I don't think we know whether or not Jefferson has been annointed the starter without real competition. I agree that QB is definitely a position of utmost concern for '10, and this makes it 3 years in a row of worry at arguably the most important position on the field. However, let's all remember that JJ is JUST now old enough to be an SEC starter. He was way too young before. With that being said, he has tons of experience now for someone as young as he is. Maybe we're about to have 2 great years at QB with a non-flashy, but capable leader. I don't know--maybe that's wishful thinking only. But let's all remember that we very likely beat Alabama last year if JJ hadn't been injured. He was pretty close to where he needs to be. The bottom line is that I don't think Miles, who knows his job is precarious (at least in the eyes of the fans), is going to just hand a job to someone without the competition. It sounds like he was offering competition to Garrett, in fact. More than QB, I hope we see even more improvement with our OL this year. They were the true weak link last year, as Charles Scott and Keiland Williams were not able to get yardage at RB. JJ probably performed about as would be expected for a youngster with a poor offensive line.
I've gotten to see Z. Lee live a few times, as live close to his high school and one HS he played against is about two block from my house. He's a damn good QB from my point of view. The question is how long will it take him to adjust to the speed of the college game. Which does he want - the money or LSU?
Although probably true, there is no way to claim this as a fact. It is a given the we will need to recruit QB's, my point was that Miles is gambling that Z Lee will win the spot and that he will be able to recruit and land another QB as good as CG. A gamble that I don't think he has much of a choice in. CG either wants to, or due to his attitude has to, go.
i posted early on in this thread, but i'll post again. how viable an option at QB would zach lee even be if he were to play both baseball and football at LSU? QB/pitcher combos rarely do so well beyond the high school ranks. and let's be honest, the baseball fan in me wants nothing more than for him to be a stud on the mound -- as well he should be being a first-round MLB talent. however, with the reps and process of learning the playbook, football is going to be a full time job spring, summer, fall and winter -- that leaves very little time for baseball. chad jones did it, but jones wasn't a QB, didn't play an entire season of baseball, and definitely wasn't a starting pitcher. i just don't see how zach lee can be a savior to both baseball and football this early on. if CLM let CG go because he promised the world to zach lee, then maybe CLM is the one who should be packing his bags. seriously, miles needs to check every move he makes because after the miffs last season, i would think his leash is very, very short. honestly, i hate to say it, but he's been making mistake over mistake over mistake for the last couple of seasons. i'm not turning this into a CLM bash session, because i'm not entirely sold on the fact that an "SEC-caliber QB" would shy down from competition. that just doesn't happen, unless crowton's offense is too difficult or intimidating for QBs to grasp, in which case..... well, yeah, he doesn't seem to be going in the right direction either. i surely hope that for miles' sake this season is absolutely phenomenal.
