From what Ive been reading...Im kinda with JayB on this one. I seriously think that baseball is priority for Z Lee at this point. And from highlights I have seen of both sports I can understand why. I think this kid is three and out and signing a MLB contract with the Cardinals I wouldn't be surprised if this kid doesn't see a snap in an SEC football game at LSU
From what I've read of Z Lee's comments about coming and playing at LSU, they have been blanket comments or references to playing for CPM. I'd say it's a small lean at this point towards baseball, but I think his motivation is to gain football experience to see what that could do for him. Playing college baseball really isn't going to up his value and actually could hurt it. So, I think his real reasoning for wanting to come to LSU is for the college experience and to see what the NFL might offer at the end of his college playing time. A gamble on his part. On that would have had to have some serious promises in order for the kid and his parents to decide to make. All that said I don't think the Garrett situation and the Lee prospect have a lot to do with Miles decision to let Garrett go. Lee's commitment may have just made it easier for Miles.
I'm sorry to hear this news, weakens us at a key spot. We don't know what went on at practice. CG took a few snaps in the spring game, did not impress, looked so so to me. JJ looked like last season, JL looked sharp most of the time. CG may have thought he was out playing the other 2 and was not being given a fair shot. CG may have been correct or incorrect in his assessment. But that view would be very frustrating, and as the Sensation has said, led to a poor locker room. CG was a redshirt frosh who enrolled early at LSU and had been through his second spring. If he thought he was beating JJ but saw himself riding the bench for two more seasons and possibly having the job for only 1 season, I could see the transfer request. What we don't know is whether CG was getting the GC offense down or not. His assessment of himself could be wrong. I'm waiting to see what comes out the next few months. Hopefully all out QB's stay healthy.
I heard Chris Garrett was not putting in the work the coaches wanted to see at LSU. I also heard his Dad was being a royal pain during his time on the team. I always wondered why you didn't hear more about a guy that came in with such good credentials. And it really puzzled me when he only played 4 snaps in the spring game. I sure hope Zach Lee stays with football! He sure sounds like the real deal. :helmet:
so you want a kid who possesses real major league talent to not pitch for LSU? to each his own, but if i were a betting man (which i am not) i'd have to bet on him definitely making the bigger splash in baseball. again, i'm not saying that he's not a decent QB, but he's also not going to completely drop baseball and focus solely on football -- not unless he comes in, grasps the offense immediately and then completely outperforms every other QB on the roster by such a wide margin that he is anointed the second coming of Christ himself. what are the odds of that happening? and i'm not going to let my bias toward baseball get in the way here, if he does do all that on the gridiron, i would certainly forgive him for never picking up a baseball again. but only because that would translate into at least 10 wins every season he starts as long as the defense is decent. of course that is a bit hyperbolic, but in any case, it's much too early to tell whether he'll even be decent on the mound. just because he was great in high school doesn't mean squat -- especially at LSU where there seems to be a curse or something preventing guys from living up to their hype.
new advocate article... released but cannot transfer to any sec school. 2theadvocate.com | Sports | Garrett leaving LSU — Baton Rouge, LA
PM and LM both said he will likely focus more on baseball in the Spring his 1st 2 years because he won't be called to start or backup out of the gate and baseball is desperate for pitching right now especially with Joey Bougeoius and Matulis both having Tommy Johns Surgery and will miss next season. But he will be on a football scholarship and Les will get the call on what happens. They have a god arangement right now between him and PM so I don't see many problems. Plus he doesn't have to fluctuate weight or play every game in baseball. Some might not realize that Miles has been in exactly the same situation before when he was at Okie St. with Josh Fields who was a pitcher and QB. He now plays 3rd base for the Royals.
I wonder in Michael B. got mixed up because the other reports coming out say different and MSU insiders are saying they are already discussing options with MSU.
i thought of the information about moo u insiders and the info that he could walk on for this year and then scholly next. then i wondered if cg and/or his father were talking with msu long before now and that information was what moo u was saying before he even asked for a transfer and knew what would be allowed. kinda a cart before the horse type thing.
