Crazy as that sounds, but he is 13-3 with a 2.27 ERA and would be definitely in the running and actually would win it if the voting was held today. Lincecum.. 12-3 2.37 Cain......... 12-4 2.43 Wainwright 14-7 2.61 Happ......... 9-2 2.66 Haren....... 12-8 2.74 Rodriguez.. 12-7 2.89 Johnson.... 12-3 2.99 Santana.....13-9 3.13
Agree that if records remain within reach of one another as well as ERA, Lincecum has an outside shot at 300Ks, and that means Cy Young. The voters love the strikeouts. I remember the year Hampton had a monster year and lost out to Randy Johnson, only because of strikeouts. Hampton was 22-4 with a 2.90 ERA. Compare that to Johnson with only a 17-9 record and 2.48 ERA but had 364 strikeouts. The voters obviously couldn't stop staring at that stat. Too bad for Hampton, cuz he really deserved it over Johnson that year.
Carpenter pitched 7 shutout innings against AAA San Diego last night. Now 14-3 with a 2.16 ERA. Lincecum has a tough matchup in Colorado today. If he gets lit up, it will be Carpenter's to lose.
Watch my boy Carpenter pitch a CGSO tomorrow against your beloved Astros!!! Wait! What am i saying??? Dumb phuck LaRussa will pull him after 8 scorless for like the 6th time this year.
I think it's his to lose now. Really incredible that he can perform at this high a level after major injuries like he has had in his career. Sad he gets so injured though. Carpenter...16-3 2.16 Lincecum.. 13-5 2.34 Cain........... 13-4 2.51 Wainwright 17-7 2.68 Johnson.... 14-4 3.04 Lincecum has gone 1-2 and lowered his ERA from 2.37 to 2.34. His team has not supported him lately and it will cause him to lose out on back to back Cy Youngs. Lincecum would have to go 4-0 from here on out to have a shot at overtaking Carpenter and hope for another loss or 2 from him.
Lincecum.. 14-5 2.30 Carpenter...16-4 2.45 Wainwright 18-8 2.59 Cain........... 13-6 2.71 Haren.........14-8 2.79 Johnson.... 15-4 3.01 Well Carpenter's stronghold is a bit loosened after a subpar performance in his last outing. It's going down to the last 2-3 starts. Wainwright is making it interesting as well, and could have made it much more interesting had it not been for a 2 run homer he gave up late in a 2-1 loss he suffered the other night.
Joe Morgan has Wainwright as his choice for Cy Young. Is there a more stupid baseball mind than Joe Morgan?
