With more than half of the baseball season over what do ya'll think of the new Voice of the Tigers Chris Blair? He is very smooth and makes very few mistakes, unlike Jim Hawthorne. Yet, listening to him sounds almost like a generic experience. Even when he says, "Tigers win, Tigers win" it sounds as exciting as hearing him say "Pass the potatoes, please." I realize he is too new to be a true homer but I hope he shows more emotion when he does football. Suggestions to improve his baseball announcing: Blair's voice is almost as smooth as Vin Scully's, minus the pacing. Blair should take 2 Valiums an hour before each broadcast. Then learn to tell interesting stories between pitches that end perfectly at the end of a batter's plate appearance. That's great for baseball but would be too laid back for football. Maybe bringing a bottle of whiskey and sipping on it throughout a football game would put him in the mood to tell it like it is when the refs blow a call or Miles makes a bonehead decision.
It takes time for a person to become "attached" to the program. It's fair at this point to analyze him as an announcer, but not as "the voice of the LSU Tigers."
Attached or not he's been pretty boring. It's his job to have enthusiasm. This was hanagriffs problem. Then again few people listen to radio broadcasts anymore so its not near as important.
Jim Henderson. Agreed. A true treasure, transplant, and an incredible rarity. That's what reinforces every aspect of his passion and why it is few and far between to uncover thus pursue and find.
It doesn't help that he has the worst color man in the history of baseball announcing. Seriously? Who thought Doug Thompson was a good idea?
