He’s been coasting for several years. He hasn’t or can’t hire quality assistants which is the key to maintaining a top quality team. They either can’t evaluate or develop talent so we’re falling behind. As I noted before this may not be the best time to part ways due to what I see could be disastrous sanctions from the NCAA (loss of institutional control). However as soon as that threat crystallizes or passes its past time to find a new HC.
At this point for me, I would rather one extreme or another. Go on an epic tear and get to Omaha or at least win the SEC tournament and win a regional or not make the post season at all. It’s a lot like with ol Lester. This treading water while slowly sinking is putting the program in a hole that’ll be even harder to dig out of the longer it lasts. We need a new voice for sure. Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather Mainieri get to legend status but that seems very highly unlikely.
