Latest rumor from Corn Country is Osborne is in Louisiana. Also, Buffalo's AD announced he gave Nebraska permission to talk to Turner Gill. It's not a done deal -- but it looks like (if you believe in internet rumors) a two horse race.
It's been that two horse race for quite some time now. As a husker fan representing all huskerdome, who do the shuckers prefer? And who do you personally prefer?
Most Husker fans prefer Pelini. Of the two I prefer Gill. I personally would like to see, gulp, Terry Bowden as the Huskers coach. Trust me when I say you can give me crap about that but Husker fans have already torn me apart for that thought. A couple of other names I have heard are paul Johnson of Navy and former Husker FB Tom Rathman.
Osborne and Terry's Dad Bobby have been friends for years. When Florida State was nothing, Osborne invited them to play in Lincoln. FSU came and actually beat us in 1980. Years later, when FSU was beating us regularlly in Bowl games, Tom sent the coaching staff to FSU in the spring to learn what he needed to change. Three titles in the 90's proved it helped. Terry was a winner at Auburn, and as much as I think we take FB serious in Neb, the folks in Alabama are freaking nuts. So I know Terry will be able to handle the scrutiny. The family ties, the fact that TB knows how to win at a big time traditional school, and the fact that Terry does the Westwood One games with Kevin Kugler who does the local sports talk show = me, a nobody, trying to get him hired here.
