Another way you could tell Miles was influencing play calling is because at one point, Danielson even mentioned it was 1970s football. Whatever works..
I am surprised that aTm didn't go to Evans more often. Commentators noticed that also. He gets a free pass at grabbing the DB's jersey as he runs by him. Credit to the pass rush. Credit to OBJ for being Manziel for the past two weeks. Credit to Chavis for this game plan. Miles said after the game that Chavis said back off, I got this. He did get this.
I was at City Cafe last night after the game. There was a big table of a&m fans, one of the girls said, y'all got our number. Maybe Chief does, I haven't seen anyone in two years slow him down like Chief, but like I said, teams better get their shots in this year.
Yeah, this was the 2nd year in a row that Chavis had his unit contain Manziel (for the most part) inside the tackles and force him into being a pocket passer. Manziel's gift is his ability to buy time by scrambling around until someone gets open or he can find a lane to the 1st down marker. Manziel is a throwback to the Jim Zorn/Archie Manning/Fran Tarkenton archetype of QBs (and to some extent Joe Theisman)...you have the game when keep those guys in the pocket and keep tight coverage on the WRs...makes a long day for them is you take away the 'get out of jail for free' card. Loved Miles' praise of Chavis immediately after the game.
