Yep, both of them are great. Peterson is tearing up his shitty conference this year--oh, wait...nevermind. Mullen? Are you joking?
Peterson has stayed at Boise for family reason and turned down several big time jobs. I doubt he will ever move. The risk of taking low star rated players is that you can't coach them up because they don't have the capability. Peterson seems to have hit a string where those he went after had peaked at 2 star. BTW because he can recruit and coach up 2 stars doesn't mean he can do the same with 4 & 5 stars.
At LSU, he would have his pick of the cream of the crop. What I like about him is his demeanor and how disciplined his teams are. It's all relative since he's coaching lesser talent but he's also coaching against teams that are similar to his and dominating them. His QBs are always intelligent and accurate and his team has signs of good coaching which translates on every level. The main question would be whether he could manage a big time program that has constant pressure on winning.
Not sure about the numbers but he got a big raise after the 03 title and the standard for top tier salaries has been raised every time a coach has won an NC. Miles would be banking in 5+ million a year had we won in 2011. The new coach wouldn't be making that much but still big money, especially when our coordinators are also one of the best paid in college football. Heck, Chavis makes $1.1 million a year.
He got a raise after he won a national championship. You are talking about a bringing someone in at what Miles makes now. Who we bringing in...Parcells?
Lots of what your saying, was said about Hawkins. Petersen is making 2M a year at 49 years old and what someone said, he's content and in a stable program. Hawkins studied under Dirk Koetter being his OC at Boise, then Koetter leaves, Hawk is the HC with Petersen his OC. A stable program there, but like I said, Hawk leaving and now out of a job.
Well, Hawk did leave for a Colorado program that was in complete disarray. I think he had the remains of the remains of some decent Buff years but that was a no win situation for whomever would have taken the job. That said neaux, I would not expect Dan "It's the Big 12" Hawkins as the coach for LSU. When I said coaches would be lining up I figured it was implied that I meant ones that could out-coach me.
