Be careful what you ask for. In this day and time, a coach has to be the right fit. The TCU coach was seen to be one of the better, once they started playing teams other than ones used for homecomings, their record has taken a hit. I remember a coach getting an offer to a SEC school. He called a coach I know and asked him about the job, my buddy told him, don't take the job. He also told him he would play heck fielding a good staff. Then the coach that had the offer said would you you come up there with me? His reply, "My wife would kill me, we been up there before!" The coach turned down the HC offer, an the school came out to say, they were going in another direction (This means, they were turned down by their choice coach). There is a thin line in winning, LSU has been on the better side for a long time. Its hard to keep a program going, few can do it. Look at K State, Bill leaves, they drop like a rock, he comes back, its like he never left. Its hard to win at K St. Look at Kirk Ferentz, the guy spent 6 years in the Pros, thought to be can't miss. He makes like 500K per win. They have a ton of money tied up with that coach. Sometimes, its hard to move a coach, move a family, move a wife, move kids. Some really good coaches will stay put. Look at every opening, many of the same names get put into the hat, only to fall through the hole in the bottom of the hat. Remember these hot, at one time, names? Dan Mullen Dana Holgorsen Charlie Weis Paul Johnson Lane Kiffin Bob Davie Larry Coker Dennis Franchione
Look, I understand you love uncle leslie, but you cannot sit there and tell me that there would not be a line of damn good coaches willing to take this job? Is that what you are saying? A job that has been consistently ranked in the top 5 in the nation and the best we would be able to do is the guy from oh la la? Or Jackson St? Maybe Memphis? Is that what you are saying? Lets remember, les had a good gig before he showed up, so did lil nicky purely hypothetical, I know les isn't going anywhere
BS Shane no one is saying Miles is the best there is or there aren't better out there. I am saying that given the circumstances put forth which are: Firing Miles today with his track record of success. That would poison the well of coaches available. Not because they wouldn't want a shot but because they are smart enough to see they are building on a foundation of sand and the first hint of imperfection will cause that foundation to crumble. I don't think you realize how loudly that would say not to trust LSU and their word. It wouldn't be worth the risk. It would be worth the risk to a second tier coach who other wise would have no shot at this job. Likewise if Les left under different circumstances, health, another job, failure as shown in losing record, or retirement any coach we want except Saban and a very few others would give his first born for the job.
Dan Mullen. Moo U Dana Holgorsen. Wva Charlie Weis nd, kansas Paul Johnson ga tech Lane Kiffin ut USC Bob Davie one of these things don't belong here one of these things are not the same Larry Coker no Dennis Franchione bama a&m Bama is the only program similar to ours and they look ok for now? In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.
How long have you been watching? First hint? This board has been going round and round with this for years. There have been foul up upon foul up. This is where the miles apologist run off the rails. His tomfoolery is well documented. The sad thing is you will win because he isn't going anywhere and we get to do this all over again, maybe Sunday morning, almost assuredly Nov 10, at least a couple times next year and the year after that. Its okay, I don't mind.
How do you think you get big time hires? How can he do anything at LSU if he hasn't coached there before? Doesn't make sense to me What did Saban do for Bama before they dropped the big bucks for him? We are LSU...we can afford it.
I'm just giving you the facts, I talk with some of these coaches, I know how most think, even more, I listen to what a wife has to say. Many listen to what the wife has to say. As the kids get older, one thing I push is stability, job and family. I just gave you a list of at one time some of the hottest names in coaching, I could double that list if you want. Remember nick took the LSU job, how many coaches came in with him? When Les took the job, how many coaches came with him? Look at what Les has done at LSU for the last 9 years, give me a list of coaches that have done as good over the same time and in a conference like the SEC. I too know Les isn't going anywhere. Sure, we would have a list of names, the same names that hit the hat like I said. LSU had Jack Del Rio, a wonder how he would have done. Bo Rein, wonder how he would have done. Where would we be now?
