Thank you. I agree and said the same thing, but got bashed for it. He's still got to play the same elite teams in the conference as he did at LSU and if his philosophy didn't work or was trending down while here, it's going to do the same thing at ANM

Alabama's head coach is the real DC of that team. I'm sure Kirby's learned a lot from him though and they've been together long enough that the head coach may even trust him enough to develop game plans. But he's such a control freak that I'm sure he reviews and tweaks it thoroughly before giving his stamp of approval.

It appears that Coach Chavis booted because he was pissed off at Alleva and the athletic department and even took a 400k hit so it had nothing to do with money. This is what happens when you have a complete jerkoff for an AD.

Yeah, that is what I thought this was about from the get-go. CLM commented last week that to keep good coaches you have to pay them, and that seemed to me to be a comment aimed at Alleva. When I heard all of this go down, my initial thought was Alleva. Lots of other "facts" and theories to come out. Who knows? It is what it is, and there ain't no turning back now. Time to bring in a fresh, and hopefully even better, DC. This Pentagrass guy looks interesting.

it's exactly the point. Any coordinator knows that if the head coach is fired, that they aren't guaranteed a job.

This isn't about some stupid Claus or four hundred thousand dollars over 4 years. This is about Chavis getting sick of his defense having to carry the load for the entire team. This is about Chavis knowing that Miles isn't going to change and that things aren't going to be any different.

Chavis is defense isn't built to carry a team although it's done a pretty good job over his tenure. It's about making an offense work its way down the field and taking advantage of an opportunistic turn-over here and there. If LSU had even an average offense Chavis is david would be even better because it wouldn't have to be on the field so much and have more time to rest. That said, I don't see how Sumlins offense is going to help him out either because that offense isnt built to sustain drives.

Chief did a great job considering the absolutely pathetic offense help he had on the other side of the ball. he certainly isn't irreplaceable though and there are plenty of hungry defensive coordinatorsthat will be glad to step in and utilize LSU's and Louisiana's talent.

Has Chavis or A&M made an official announcement? All I've seen is reports citing unnamed sources saying he was going to A&M. And he hasn't lost 400k if he's still on the LSU payroll.

"In the last few weeks John Chavis asked to have a clause removed from his contract that said that in the event of Les Miles "retiring, resigning or getting fired" he would have his contract terminated, and would get a six month severance.

That was not something that Chavis wanted.

After he was told that the language would not be changed and all other assistants had that clause in their new deals Chavis did not sign his new deal.

Les Miles and John Chavis had numerous talks, and in those conversations Miles told Chavis he was not going any where and tried to sell Chavis on the deal.

Miles also thought that because Chavis had another year on his deal and language in the existing contract that called for asking for permission to talk to another school, giving notice that he was talking to another school and also giving notice that he was taking another job, that there was nothing to the rumors because he received none of that.

I was told that Miles talked to Chavis before they left and was confident in the deal being signed.

The person I talk to that is closest to Chavis told me on Sunday that Chavis was very upset that the practice on Sunday was nearly four hours long, and Chavis began to complain to him about how "we have to fix this shit".

Even he thought that Chavis was staying based on our conversation on Sunday night. On Monday I talked to two staff members who told me that the Chavis rumors may have some legs.

One of them asked Chavis point blank, and was told told no decision was made.

But as we reported from Scott Roussell at Football Scoop there was a phone call on Monday from Chavis to Sumlin.

One of the staff members I talked to said that when that story got out things inside of the program really changed.

People who are close to Chavis thought that was in poor taste, with a game to be played.

When they talked to him on gameday and found out that he had talked to A&M weeks prior, and that what they believed was a deal already done with A&M became fact they became angry.

Chavis has some very close people in the building, and one of them told me tonight they could not believe the way he handled the deal.

None of them understand why Chavis allowed the deal to be announced on December 31, because his buyout expires on January 1, 2015.

Chavis lost $400,000 by the deal being announced today.

And in talking to people today they believe that to be him doing this entire deal out of spite.

He was so angry that the athletic department would not take the clause out of the contract that he just said "forget it", and moved along.

Three peole I talked to today have told me this had very little to do with what was happening at Football Ops.

John Chavis issues with LSU is with the people across the street in the Athletic Department. "

I don't think a deal has been actually inked yet. I think all the preliminary stuff was just ironing out a deal, but won't be inked until tomorrow to avoid the buyout thing, unless him negotiating with A&M before tomorrow somehow broke his contract obligations. Like not informing the HC or the AD about his intentions.

But a lot of sources say his leaving is a done deal.

Well, I haven't seen anyone else say it so I'll be first: Fuck John Chavis. You want to bail on my Tigers, especially for a bunch of sorry ass aggies and an SEC foe, then fuck you. I could care less about his clause or any of that shit. He doesn't want to be a Tiger then take your ass and go to Texas and I hope like hell we pound your ass into oblivion every damn time we face you.
