I think the only way Chief would even consider leaving LSU is if he was offered a HC position at a major program. Chief is such an original and class act I would not begrudge him if he chose to accept such a position. Personally I hope he retires a Tiger and sticks around another 10 years before doing so.
Not sure he has aspirations to be a hc. Probably wrong but to be a Dc for so long and at such a high level must have meant he got some sniffs at one time or another. Not sure on that history but he must be very content to sit up in the booth and call d. I bet les gives him tons of freedom and respect 2 things a coach at his level must need to be content.
Good for him! I suspect he's a real loyal guy and hasn't forgotten what went down at TN when he left.
Chief has said before to many, he wants to be a DC and thats it. He said that he could retire at LSU. This is all he really wants. I take him at his word. He is one of the guys I see staying at LSU for a while.
And he just likely got himself a raise to $1MM USD anyway from 700K by turning down Tennessee's offer and beating Bama this Monday night watch les get him that raise and a seven or eight year contract:thumb:!
he's the best thing to happen to lsu in a long time. and he is loyal to whoever contracts for his services! i have the feeling the difference in pay will be filled in the near future. we love chief!
Wow, I was thinking that that guy was about to get fired at Clemson, but he is actually getting job offers? I wouldn't let him any where near a defense.
Remember that Chief is a UT grad as well. Bear Bryant went back to AMAB because he said "When Mama calls, you listen". Well, in Chief's case, Mama slapped him and his 'brother' (fellow UT Grad Phil "The Great Pumpkin" Fulmer) pretty hard. Pretty hard to go back home when Mama was so abusive at the end. Thanks for staying, Chief! GEAUX TIGERS
Chavis realizes that the people of Louisiana will not turn their backs on him. He could retire here and live out his days here as a hero.
