This is great news, bhelm. Thank you for the update. I always love it when you break news or confirm news so that I can take it to the bank and spread the knowledge with my friends that depend on me for LSU updates. Thanks again, bhelm!:thumb:
Not doubting you at all, I hope he sticks around... but if you're staying why not just say so and stop beating around the bush. In 07, Miles point blank said "I'm not leaving LSU'. But Chavis doesn't seem to have the same mind set.
He said that before he got the raise, apparently. It was a ploy to get more $$$........and it worked. Business is business. Personally, I'm glad we ponied up to keep him.
Miles never said anything emphatic until Herbstreit reported on GameDay the morning of the SECCG that he was leaving for Michigan. That forced Miles' hand where he held his now famous press conference thoroughly debunking Herbie's report. Miles' decision was still a source of speculation leading right up to that point. Another poster was right, Chavis was weighing all his options, and if he could use UGA's interest to leverage a better deal for himself from LSU, then why not?
Cajun is right... He agreed in principal today so he was still in negotiations at that time plus I am sure Miles told him to not talk about it given the conference was about LSU and the game we still have to play tomorrow.
:geaux: TigerRag also reporting that Chavis is staying put in article on their website. Saw it on The Advocate website as well. :LSU231:
I think Chavis was a great hire and will improve the D greatly once he gets the players he needs. However the longer the rumors swirl and he doesn't shoot them down the less confident I am that LSU is where he wants to stay long term. I understand contract negotiations and trying to get more money. However I think he could have negotiated the raise even after affirming his intentions to stay at LSU. I'd like to see him say something solid about his long term intentions and I'd like to see him move his family down here.
Long-term anything can happen. I am just happy he is going to be here next year. Negotiating a raise without any leverage is not a great business practice. Nothing new in this industry.
