Don't care, and I never said Ole Miss's D was awesome. The SEC is still about stopping the run first. Unless teams switch to a total Big 12 style of offense and stop playing D, I don't want to be undersized. Arkansas is throwing the ball around quite a bit now, but their line still outweighs our D line by 50 pounds per man. Take a look at how much time their QB gets to throw sometime and see if you might like to have that at LSU.
Are you 5????? Chavis is far down the list sporty. In no particular order there was Charly Mac under Dietzel, Muschamp under Saban, Pelini. The best two DCs were also head coaches Bill Arnsbarger was the best I ever saw pro or college. At LSU he pulled magic from his hat in making in game adjustments and game planning. As a pro he developed the famous 'Killer Bees' at Miami and lead them to a undefeated season and Super Bowl. Likewise Saban as HC was pretty fair. Chavis is very good but not close to the best. As to being a class act his manner of leaving LSU gives lie to that.
Arkansas has 5 losses. One of them this year was to middle of the pack Texas Tech. Ole Miss D was SUPPOSED to be best in SEC last year. Patterson has had numerous defenses finish in top 10 in country in several categories, over multiple years. However, he knew that defense alone would not win like it used to without a serious makeover of the offense. TCU has lost as many games in the last 2 years as LSU has in the last 3 weeks. Seems he was on to something. Blocking does not only have to do with size, technique is even more important. Fat guys that can't move, can and do get beat by guys alot lighter.
For some reason, a lot of people on this board think Patterson replaced that guy that had those amazing defenses at TCU. Little do they realize that it's the same coach.
I still think Patterson has done more with less talent than a lot of coaches. He adapted to an offensive mind set because he knew thats what was needed to compete and win in the big 12. The guy can flat out coach.
