Well, as long as we're on the "it could never happen but what if..." train: I hear Belichick got exposed the other night by some team down yonder in dat der Loosiana. Think he'd take over as QB Coach for LSU? I mean, Tom Brady sure is a great QB...surely Belichick could do some damage for our foes. :hihi:
May not be suicide if he fell in the A Basin while fishing, the gators and shoepicks could feed their entire species for at least 6 months!:geaux: BTW, I say bring in Justin Fuente from TCU, the guy can dial up the offense and is a RB coach as well.
let me add that "specialty" was the pov pat came up with. while i was thinking we need an oc that is a lot better at coaching qb's than what we have now, or a qb coach, i must say, i like his idea and agree with it. i have been wondering what top tier programs have a qb coach and which ones dont? i would like to compare the qbs of those programs. obviously it also depends on qb talent, but it would be an interesting look. im just too lazy to look for the info.
Charlie is a smart man where ever he does go he's going to be super rich..double dipping getting salary from ND and then from his new team.
Just doing a quick search, so far I've come up with Oklahoma, Florida, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech all have QB coaches that are NOT also the offensive coordinator. Boise, Alabama, Texas, Iowa, Georgia, Auburn, Miami, Florida State (duh, Jimbo), and Clemson all have coordinators that also take QB duties. TCU has co-coordinators, one taking RBs, the other QBs. Oregon doesn't list anybody with QB responsibilities. I picked kind of a random sample. Some top teams this year, others perennial powers.
This is a quote from an ESPN article on Weiss: "Let's say I go to somebody's staff as an offensive coordinator. Let's assume that that's where this is headed. Not only do I have a different perspective now, having sat in the seat for five years, but that head coach will have a sounding board, somebody they can run things by," he said. "I think it will help me personally. It'll help me professionally, and it will also help the guy I'm working for, because my perspective is so different now." Charlie Weis says he hopes the next Notre Dame coach has more success - ESPN
It's not going to happen. Anyway, living in South Bend area, I am not high on Charlie at all. ND's offense could not run. His offensive line was terrible in two out of last three years allowing so many sacks in 2007 and 2008. Charlie does not know how to teach / develop kids from high schools. He only knows how to scheme and works with pros who already knew fundamentals.
