Grant has been a huge disappointment the last couple of years at least. However there is a reason he has been the starter all season. If the Saints had a better player for his position Grant would be the back up. It's another hit on a hurting defense at the absolute worst time. It's a definite position long overdue for an upgrade and hopefully the Saints will address it in the off season.

Well Hargrove's natural position would be DE, but because we are paying Mr Grant so much money we are compelled to start him and play him extensively.

You will see Hargrove make a difference at DE in Grant's spot in the playoffs and then he can move to DT on obvious passing downs and allow McCray/Spicer/Charleston to come in at DE on passing downs. Or we can go to a 3 man front with Hargrove at DE and Ellis in the middle (my preferred defensive alignment).

Grant will likely be released in the off season, unless the salary cap hit is too much.

    Totally agree.

Grant is a piece of shyt that should've been cut 3 yrs ago.

Hopefully this is the last we'll ever see of him.

So essentially he counts as though he would be playing. But then at least we don't actually have to pay him if we cut him.

That's a lot of cap money to throw away though.

But from Benson's perspective you won't actually be paying him any money. And that means a lot to him personally. He will count towards the cap that much anyway. I think we should let Anthony Hargrove play DE next season. He would kill at that spot and our D would be much better, especially against the pass.
