WOW! do you think that is warranted? calling russel shepard out after charlie talked himself blue in the face last week saying how it's the coaches fault he isn't ready, that he's been here long enough and should know the playbook? come on! shepard hasn't gotten his hands on the ball enough for people to come to that conclusion. :dis: it's not his fault that the plays that are called for him are scripted. it's not his fault they call the same play every time he goes into the game. he's not getting the 5+ YPP that he was getting because defenses know what to expect. yeah he botched a few plays today, but so did jefferson. shepard is a true freshman and has almost no experience outside of a few plays. jefferson has like seven or eight games under his belt. they should cut the dude some slack.
They didn't call him out they simply said they see why he isn't playing more and pointed out him having to call two timeouts because he didn't understand what he was supposed to do on a simple run off tackle.
You can mark it down, he WILL throw the ball next weekend. At least he took the time outs on those plays, and i thought he did a good job.
LSU had the perfect opportunity for him to throw his first past around 3something left in the game down near the goal. He does need to take better care fo the ball, I know the ground caused the fumble but still. He just needs a lil more weight and muscle. I still think he should be implemented in more plays at various positions. Even if he doesnt always touch the ball.
I disagree, i thought Jefferson did a hell of a job at the line of scrimmage pre snap today, especially having to look at the official for the play clock time. He just looked scared to pull the trigger on the plays he got sacked.
Actually he did average over 5 yds. per touch again. I think he had 6 carries for 32. That one run was close to going all the way. Gordy and Charles have been a little uptight lately. It's the first BIG road game the guy has been in. Maybe if they wouldn't take him out for 30 minutes he might be a little sharper at remembering plays. But he DOES need to remember his plays no matter how excited he gets or whatever. Valid point...but not a big deal.
Jefferson has a long long way to go, but not nearly as far as Shep. Shep was in for about 8 plays total as QB and had to call 2 timeouts. At that rate JJ would have to call about 30 timeouts a game to be even. I thought they would both be farther along at this point, but they are both really young. I still think Shep should see more PT, but you can't run him every time he steps on the field. The coaching staff needs to practice at least one passing play for him to keep the D honest.
Keep playing Sheppard, get him in there with Holliday on the wild cat... defense can't key on Holliday... eventually there will be some big gains from that one play.
