With the NFL draft not too far down the road, I figure many of you have been trying to figure out who the perfect fit for the Saints 1st round pick should be.

List the top 5 players you'd like to see the Saints have a realistic shot at at the 15th pick and give a one line explanation of why you think that player would make sense for the Saints to select with our 1st round pick. (Avoid players that will most likely be already gone when our 1st pick rolls around.)

Here are my top 5 with reasons below:

    1. Alex Okafor, DE, Texas. - Complete DE that is a speed rusher, run stuffer, and power rusher all rolled into one.
    2. Matt Elam, S, Florida - Ronnie Lott type hitter/player with a high football IQ at a position of extreme need and will make the D more physical instantly.
    3. Desmond Truffant, CB, Washington - Elite speed cover corner who is also effective in zone coverage.
    4. Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma - Big OT who excels in pass protection and could easily be available at #15 but might go before then.
    5. Johnathan Hankins, DT, Ohio State - Athletic, 325lb run stuffing DT's don't grow on trees.

    My methodology:

    1. Crossed off all players that will guaranteed to be snatched up in the top 10 (Joeckel, Floyd, Lotulelei, Fisher, Milliner, etc)
    2. Crossed off any QB, TE, WR (although if Tavon Austin slipped, I could see us actually picking him)
    3. Crossed off any player that had a fairly high bust potential (Ansah, Te'o, Hunt, Moore)
    4. Crossed off players that project to be ideally suited for the 4-3 rather than the 3-4 (Werner, Richardson, Short, etc)
    5. Crossed off Montgomery, Mingo, Minter, and Reid simply because I think it is best for them to spread their wings elsewhere.

IMHO, all 5 of the players I listed above are worthy of the 15th pick and would add overwhelming value to our team.

    Who you got?

Best player available...everyone expects the Saints to raft for need, but I think they consider this a rebuilding year for the D and they could draft an OL.

If I were a GM, the early part of the draft would be the easiest part of my job. I would only draft lineman in the first two rounds every year or trade if there are too many desirable skill players in the best available pool.

That does not answer the question.

Who are you're top 5 players you'd like the Saints to select from with their 1st pick? Give a brief one liner as to why.

    Dipchit.

I figured we could get more discussion about the Saints draft. Anybody...?

MANY mock drafts have LSU taking Mingo. My gut tells me the Saints will do what they usually do, which is the unexpected that will thrill, confuse, and madden all at the same time.

    What do y'all think?

I think the Saints will either trade down or take the BPA who is an OT, DL, OLB, or DB

If OG Chance Warmack is there, we might take him if we agree with those that think he is one of the biggest Sure Things to come out in a while at their respective position (and we love our OGs)

Other than taking a QB, RB, or TE, the biggest surprise would be us taking a WR (Tavon Austin, Cordarrelle Patterson)

I think in the first round they should take the best available pass rush OLB, S, or CB based on how they have them graded. What they will do is anybody's guess. Of course I am massively biased but id love to see them somehow trade up into the top 10 to get Mingo but I doubt that'll hapoen. I do hope this years draft involves their scouts having one of those late round unhrard of gems from some no name school again that they always seem to know about that nobody else does.
