Mainieri has essentially told Jones that he shouldn't be missing football practice just to sit on the bench for baseball. Interesting. I wonder if Jones still prefers baseball (assuming that those comments were true and not just positioning for a better MLB draft position). http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/lsu/featured/16211362.html
Better to excel at one sport, instead of stalling at two. Chad will still have a great career in both. A very unselfish decision by our coach and another example of how the players are being taken care of. That speaks volumes.
mainieri and miles seem to have a good working relationship about letting kids play two sports. miles did that at osu too. between the two coaches, they will do what is right for their players looking at each on an individual basis, and not just a one size fits all agreement.
sounds to me like mainieri doesnt want jones to play baseball. how is jones going to "earn the right" to play if he isnt there?
Not at all. If he didn't want Jones to play baseball, he wouldn't be on the team. Jones is on a football scholarship and I suspect Maineri means exactly what he says. He would be missing football practice just to sit during baseball games. He can still practice baseball and attend games when the football team is not practicing. This just keeps him from missing 6 football practices. After spring football season, he'' return to all baseball games.
i guess you're right, but what does "earn the right" mean? sounds like he wont play the better player because he hasnt been there as long or ____.
I think you are reading too much into this. Right now Jones is sitting behind a phenom in Leon Landry and a proven .300 SEC hitter in Nick Pontiff. It may be hard for him to crack the line up. Why not have him practice football?
Sounds to me like he has not played well enough to beat out the starters. Nothing more. Does not mean Coach does not want him on the team or that he thinks he can't contribute, just that he is not in a position to do it right now. However, he is a definite contributor on the football team right now, and the coach seems to be making sure he doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
absolutely. Miles is a big-time baseball fan, too. He is often at the box cheering on his guys. It's great to see Paul being so great about it all.
