I was really impressed with him his frosh season, he seemed to get lost his soph season. I'll blame it on coaching, but I'm not sure, but its convenient. Blame it on the guys that left. I hope to see some impact plays from Chad this season.
CJ didn't impress this year because he played a "rover" position & he couldn't cover well one on one. He played FS in the GT game, which is why he performed much better. There was talk of him bulking up to LB when he was a recruit, and he would have none of it - I don't think anything has changed. Expect to see him starting at FS next year.
Any doubts about Chad Jones making a smooth transition to LBer should have been erased with the performance that Nic Harris put on this week at the Senior Bowl. I heard he was shedding blocks and sticking ballcarriers like like Ray Lewis and blanketing receivers like Champ Bailey. Nothing but good things came out about this the former ASH product and one-time LSU Commit..
According to DD, if I'm not mistaken, it was going to be Chad Jones at SS and Harry Coleman at FS. I find it odd that McCray won't be starting next year when he started in the absence of Curtis Taylor this year. I love CJ and I would love to see him getting time, but I think the two OLBs we have right now are too good to replace. Sheppard has a lot of potential and I like his speed and Riley played well to finish the season.
Chavis is a LB specialist and he recruited those guys hard. It makes me wonder if they are better than we've seen. I think we'll see better play from them next season with Chavis in their ears.
CJ (WHO?! CHAD JONES!!)'s issues were scheme-based, if you ask me. He's a perfect fit at FS- built like an LB but quick. Looks kinda like LaRon SR yr IMHO.
During Chavis' time at UT, he liked to take a high school recruit and move them down a position (S to LB, LB to DE, DE to DT) to increase the overall speed of his defense. Don't be suprised to see Chavis try to move Chad Jones to OLB, he is exactly what Chavis likes in a linebacker.
