Top Performers @ Bench Press: NFL Events: Combine Top Performers You'll notice that Chad Jones is absent. One of the draft sites out there listed 9 reps. I heard someone else make a remark in person and that was the number that was dropped. Perhaps we both saw it off the same website, but if he did 24 reps then it would be listed on the NFL website.
The guy could still make a ton of money in the NFL, if a coach has any common sense, they would put 5-10lbs on him and turn him into a nasty azz OLB.
I dont remember who was commenting but on NFL Network (Sirius) they were saying teams know Chad has upside but are going to stay away because of baseball. He is perceived as having a conflict of interest. They mentioned he only did a few reps on the bench press and scouts were saying it was proof he wasnt committed. They never said it was only 9 but it was talked about so obviously it was a low number. He still has our Pro Day to make his case. Hopefully he will get some good advice and prepare better. Who is his agent, anyone know?
Hold on there just a minute! Your idea that most lefties don't throw hard 90+ mph is too subjective for this former mlb pitcher to swallow. We had plenty of them. The trick is to find those who throw hard, have at least three strong pitches (which always includes a good changeup), and most important IMO is getting it across the plate in the Strike Zone! What made Warren Spahn such a great pitcher IMO is he could throw a strike - be it fastball, hook, changeup - when he needed it most. My pitching coach was a "softer" leftie - Max Lanier (30s-40s). His strength on the mound came from his experience and knowledge of the hitters he was pitching against. The best gem I got from him was ball placement. BTW, isn't Jamie Moyer of the Phillies still pitching at age 42? Yes, I think so. After all, he has three effective pitches with a top speed of 84 - slow, slower, and slowest! :bball::bball::bball::bball::bball::bball: :geaux:
i know there are many chad jones fans out there and i was rooting for the kid because his highlight reel many times made up for what i bolded above. when you're out of position as much as he is, it's not because you lack the athletic ability to be in position. he's lacking upstairs. is it b/c he's been underprepared by his coaches? is it a "him" problem? don't know. but i'm definitely not one of the ones lobbying for the saints to take him and defintiely think he needed another year in NCAA to prepare. i wish him the best, but none of this news blows me away. maybe i'll be wrong for saying this but i think we get better at FS next near by subtraction.
the million dollar question. what do you think? Is it Jones or the coaching staff? I mean hell, he has had 3 different DC's in his 3 years at LSU, well, 4 actually if you count the 2 headed experiment as 2 instead of 1.
