College Football News Front Page "4. Chad Jones, LSU 6-2, 221 Positives: A big game-changing player who was the leader of an athletic secondary. … A decent enough athlete to be used in a varity of ways. A sheriff with good range. … Strong against the run. Isn’t afraid to bring the lumber. Negatives: Baseball. He’s good enough to make a living as an MLB outfielder or possibly a relief pitcher. … Not an elite athlete. Fine, but not NFL special. … Will be more of a zone defender and could struggle with the faster receivers. " not to mention he ran down Run DMC from behind as i believe as a freshman was it
Trindon was clocked at 4.22, then it ended up actually being a 4.34 officially. Jones ran 4.6. Trindon may have repped only 10 times but he's a buck 60 soaking wet. Chad Jones is 230 lbs.
I thought Jones would have been the proverbial workout, combine warrior. Now with the poor combine added to his subpar film he just hurt his draft status. I wouldnt waste a pick on him until the 4th round. He was clearly ill-prepared which doesnt show much on his character or seriousness of dedication to improvement. Everyone was all over Jones when he made the big stop at Miss St. Which was a great play, not taking anything away. For a while he did show some improvement but quickly reverted back to his mistakes. Like Ive said many times, Jones will give you the highlight play as far as big hits or stops but on avg. He is far more likely to miss a tackle, take a poor angle, or be late in coverage help. Jones would have been much better off coming back to LSU for a year as well as moving to LB. If Miles ran LSU like Carroll did USC to where play on the field dictates PT then Jones would have been sitting to light a fire under him.
Jones is going to AA baseball most likely, and he knows it. But he'd always second-guess himself if he didn't give the NFL a shot. He still needs work to be a major leaguer anyway and he's better off leaving football and getting a couple of years work in the minor leagues for his best shot at a MLB career.
I didn't agree with this early last year, but I agree now. Sorta looks to me like both he and his brother left LSU with untapped potential. Some folks just make their own way regardless. But you can't help wonder if they've had subpar position coaches for too long and just couldn't catch up in one year...
Chad Jones actually did 24 reps on the bench, just like Taylor Mays. 9 is BS. Draft Countdown - 2010 Scouting Combine Safety Results
This link also says 24 reps. 9 was his hand size. Draft Countdown - 2010 Scouting Combine Safety Results
One positive to take away from this is that Reshad Jones, who was down to LSU and UGA, is just about exactly the same player as Chad. Not a big loss mentally and athletically despite being a 5 star player.
Kind of sucks i really like Chad Jones. Doesn't seem to be a headcase like Jamarcus. Maybe he just isn't that smart.
