I don't think injuries have been a huge part of why this particular LSU team, as the writer denotes, "isn't very good". We shall see if Les Miles does it again. If he does this time, then the entire 30 days to prepare thing is going to take on a life of it's own.
CFN if they think LSU isn't very good. I just have a feeling we're going to take 'em to the woodshed. And I don't get these feelings very often.
Les Miles since he has been at LSU has outscored out of conference opponents 918 - 222. Some of those opponents have been, Washington, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Arizona State, Arizona, Fresno State, USL, Tulane, La Tech, Troy, Ohio State, Notre Dame. The most points scored on Les Miles (LSU) by an out of conference opponent is 31 which was done twice, once by Arizona State in Miles first game as head coach right after Katrina, and by Troy last year. Be afraid Penn St, be very afraid.
the good news is that the cfn writers all picked FL over bama (although so did most of you) the bad news is that there isnt much objective evidence that LSU is good. 0 wins over a SEC team with a winning conf record. there were only two chances to do it, but still, no nice wins. im worried for our OL. obviously JJ needs to play well, and i have more confidence in him with a month to practice, but a good DL handling your OL is different. doesnt seem its so much about scheme or execution, but talent.
No offense, but I'm not sure that has anything to do with Penn State.. Last year we didn't beat any SEC teams with winning records either. Lots of us here were worried going into the GA Tech game with that defense last year. There's no shortage of posts where people here thought we were going to get rolled. The media did too.. It's no different than any other year. I like LSU being the underdog and not getting the benefit of a doubt. They'll never see it coming. :tigereye::wave::tigereye:
Best linebacking corps in the nation? Could CFN possibly be more delusional? Sean Lee dealt with having to return from an ACL surgery and subsequently missed a handful of games by tweaking his other knee.... Navorro Bowman missed time with a groin injury..... Josh Hull is NOT an above average linebacker. He hasn't missed any time at all and this is how he compares to Bowman/Lee, both of whom missed complete games (multiple games each BTW): Hull: 110 tackles (70 ASSISTED), 8.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 2 INTs Bowman: 84 tackles (39 assisted), 15.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 2 INTs, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 defensive TDs (INT return/fumble recovery) Lee: 80 tackles (37 assisted), 10.5 TFL, 2 sacks, 1 INT, 8 deflections Everyone was pumped to see the tandem of Lee and Bowman (on the field for 12 games with no time missed, 13 w/ bowl) with a TR SO Mauti in the middle, had that occured there could be a legit argument for best LB corps in the nation. Nobody even cares that we are losing Hull, but Bowman was an early enrollee and now as a RS JR it is almost a given he'll declare, along with a RS SR Sean Lee....losing Hull is practically a bonus with US Army AA LBs Mike Hull (legacy from PA, NOT related to PSU LB Josh Hull) and Khairi Fortt (CT) arriving in the '10 class....just a better chance for either to get on the field as TR FR (spot duty or not) with all 3 starters gone. ------- I think the best promo for this game is the fact that both teams combined for only one loss against a team not in a BCS bowl game, LSU to Ole Miss....and that was just crazy. These aren't scrub programs, coaches, or players. Far from it. PSU's OLine got bitchslapped some this year (3 first year starters on the OLine, returning 2 shuffled to new positions, line didn't settle until 4-5th game in), Clark played his worst at the most inopportune times, PSU lost a RS SO DE to the NFL (Maybin - #11) and a TR JR (Maurice Evans - undrafted - suspended to start '08 season) when most thought at least Evans would return, and replaced all 4 starters in the secondary. I'm sure LSU has some horror stories also....like needing a lot more from the offense, losing a ton of starting RBs to injury, and needing better pass rush.
