We are not going to take 25 for the hell of it. We finished our class very early and saved a few spots open for potential NSD surprises. We have gotten lucky as of late with guys like Montgomery, etc... but that is not the norm.

LSU has not taken any kind of hit and could fill those spots no problem if they wanted to but not going to do it. They can use those spots for when have real needs.

I totally agree with you. The ultimate judgement comes a few years later. Im speaking of this being a solid class on paper.

On paper? Some of the on paper from past years:
    The starting OL this year.

    PJ-3*
    Hurst-3*
    Faulk-4*
    Williford-3*
    Blackwell-4* DT

    Some others of note:
Bennie Logan-3* DE (Bennie was the starting DT this year).
Brockers-4*DE- Looks to be a top 20 pick in the NFL draft, played DT.
Mo-3* WR-Top 5 Pick in the NFL draft as a CB
    Chase Clemont-4*DE (Starting TE)
Lavar Edwards-3* TE (Played DT and DE)
    Chris Davenport-5*DT (Playing OT)

Theres more to the list, but you get the point.

The 2008 signing class only had one 5* player PP7, but if you look at that class, a bunch of those 3 and 4 * players helped this team last year.

We had a great defense this year, guess how many of those starting guys were 5* Players? Zero........yep...:tigereye:

I guess with as many committs as we had early...then it seemed like we were having to HOLD spots for kids like collins, kiel ect......then we do not get them loose an early enrolee in patrick miller, maybe I was just expecting the fireworks at the end and to not get one of them is just a mental letdown. Still a solid class.....just hoping les and the guys can get that want to be at LSU back on track!!

I hope you are correct and we don't reach, but I think we have in the recent past. The weak links leave by attrition, attrition--quite a euphemism. Usually it is the guys that are a little small and/or must be converted to play another position. I mentioned before I don't really see obvious weak links in this class.

Another thing to consider is the fact that we have very few seniors on the team...yet we have been signing 25-27 players each year.

    Why is that?

    (Attrition)

No big deal if we have a low ranked year or sign less than 25 players because every year there are new signees that displace the upperclassmen. If we have a down year, watch out next year. I promise we'll have new freshmen next year that will be better than some of the guys from the previous couple of years.

I'll start worrying if we have several low ranked years in a row

Would it be nice to have had some of the bigger names and 5 star guys sign?Yes lets not act like everybody wasn't thrilled when Kiel gave verbal or hopes weren't high for guys like Collins and others. Did the staff bring in need position (LB,TE) players in-Yes. Like it's been said with the core of the team being younger it is harder to get those top tier guys who want to start day 1. Also as some have pointed there are guys who come in as 3 star guys who bloom after high school and sometimes are better suited at a different position. I agree lets not be down on the class lets wait 2 seasons and see what shakes out.

dont know if this was ever posted but Howard has always been a big Cane fan, and most feel he would have already committed there if his mother didnt have such a big influence, they are taking a so called "business approach" based on info from some of the good UF and Cane outlets

The biggest need for this class was LB and TE, we have filled those needs. I do like to look ahead, next years class of high school Srs. is one of the better that I can remember. The top 25-30 looks to be some great players. LSU could fill its class from just La. One of the kids to keep an eye on.....

Karl Malone Jr. like his dad -- kind of - ESPN
