http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/11/world/europe/vatican-child-abuse/index.html It was fun while it lasted ......way to get right on top of it, speedy work Gents..
Duh on the Catholic Church's part. The Catholic Church definitely has to be careful about where its flexes its muscles. It's like the bully mentality of needing to feel they've "laid down the law". Even after the fact, I guess they feed some sort of ego.
You'd have to be a special kind of stupid to think the Vatican city-state already didn't have criminal laws against the mistreatment of minors under which child abusers are tried and punished criminally Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations with States, told reporters that while the new code explicitly mentions some crimes, such as child abuse and money-laundering, “it would however be incorrect to assume that the forms of conduct thereby sanctioned were previously licit.” Giuseppe Dalla Torre, the presiding judge of the Vatican City court, told reporters that the new laws, define and set out penalties for specific crimes against minors, including the sale of children, child prostitution, the military recruitment of children, sexual violence against children, and producing or possessing child pornography. Previously, he said, those specific crimes would have been punished under the already-existing laws against the mistreatment of minors.
That's what I meant by them flexing their muscles needlessly, in reality- if that was in response to mine.
"The acts were already crimes under church law, but are now specifically outlawed within the Vatican city-state" Seems things were never really settled in Vatican City was my point, this new Pope knows God ain't got time to be worrying about every little boy's b-hole in the Vatican he's busy trying to land LSU's record setting recruiting class.....
It was in response to the writer at CNN. But yeah, i saw that one or two spokespeople of child advocacy groups criticized the Vatican for needlessly flexing their muscles / trying to trump up positive PR that doesn't really change anything, but i don't think that was the Vatican's intent. But anyway, child abuse did happen, so the Catholic church will always be under a microscope regarding it which is fair and a good thing
