I don't think it's that some, including me, don't want him, it's that the hire process just did not overwhelm us. We had a bad feeling JA would screw up this hire and it appears he did a ho hum job of finding someone to lead our team. All of us wish success to O and hope he turns out to be the best coach we've ever had, but he and the associates he's involved with have checkered past. Until they prove different it's ok to have uneasy feelings. I hope O goes down as the greatest coach we ever had and shows he can keep our program clean in the process.
Relax. You're comparing a new bride's cooking to your mom's, who's been doing it a lot longer. Look at 1st year teachers vs 10 yr.Course, there are those who have 10 "First" years of experience too.
Yes Captain Negative great way too back your coach who hasnt had one full year officially as full time HC. "Well bye"
I choose to have hope O's selection wasn't the result of ineptitude. O's offense looked pretty damn good (relatively) considering what he had to work with. His audition and prior work at USC warranted a serious look. I recognized the sky was falling with Miles long before most and had to endure taunts that I was a Saban lover and fair weather fan for criticizing a winning coach. Now that the worm has turned it is amazing at how nega all the posi's are. I've always looked fairly at the situation - Alleva brazenly cut the chord midseason despite being scapegoated at the end of last season by chicken shit big fish. Now he's hitched his wagon to O. This is it, he put his ass on the line. Let's see what happens. There is plenty of reason to be optimistic. Glass is at least half full, Bebe.
There was never a Samoan coming here in the first place. Narcisse was on board before O took over. Allen was already heading to Alabama before O took over. Maybe I'm out of the loop but the offense looked damn good the last time we watched it, so I don't see what evidence there is that we don't know what offense we want to run. This view mistakes the end result for the efforts of O. These things were already going to happen for the most part. Brennan was on board, but I could really care less that he's not coming here. One 4-star QB is enough, and I've still yet to see what's so special about Brennan. If anything, the fact that O is going after the Samoan shows me what I like: he's got balls.
I understand your points and agree with some of them. If you stuck a gun to my head, I would be more inclined to hire a HC sooner rather than later. The two leading candidates played us in my opinion and that left Alleva little choice if we wanted to hire a HC quickly. We'll see how it plays out. I'm optimistic.
Come on Stacey the man has not coached one game with his own staff and an off season to prepare his players with his ofensive and defensive philosophy. I trust O because his heart and soul is in this job and what I witnessed him do coaching 7 games under very trying conditions. The man deserves our backing for at least a couple of years, he' got mine.
