It means you believe that the United States government wired world trade with explosives and nobody noticed, then they set the explosives off after the had the American agents fly the jets into the buildings, which means you should not be given any sort of respect when discussing anything. Its like talking to a retarded puppy.

Then they would have even more oil available for producing domestic power. There are two kinds of countries with nuclear reactors . . . those with dwindling fossil fuels and those with nuclear weapons ambitions.

They have capabilities on paper that would be extremely difficult if not impossible to replicate in wartime. They don't have all that many missiles for one thing, they are all subject to countermeasures, but most of all . . . the missile patrol boats and onshore launch sites are all extremely vulnerable to US airpower. The Iranian Air Force cannot control the airspace in the Gulf, not even over their own territory.

Any war that Iran fights against Israel, they will lose. Any war that Iran fights against the US, they will lose in spectacular fashion. They know this. Most of their rhetoric is designed for internal consumption. Only by using the threats of war with the US or Israel can the Iranians use national pride to keep its rapidly antagonistic anti-government groups focused outwardly instead of inwardly.

I was under the impression they have limited refining capacity so they have to sell the crude on the open market. I don't think their oil reserves do them any good when they are cut off from the global marketplace.

The more the US leans on Iran the more the Iranians have to diversify their energy production. I don't blame them.

You miss the point . . . They have a vast supply of cheap oil, far exceeding their energy production needs. Nuclear power is very expensive and dangerous wastes are produced. They aren't being driven by economic, nor self-sufficiency motives. The uranium they need is not found in Iran. In fact they are now processing mostly 30-year old yellowcake they bought in Africa in the 80's. They are reportedly running out with no new sources of uranium coming in.

No, these sanctions have hurt Iran and the new ones will hurt them badly. Internal factions will argue and the chance of a new revolution Iran becomes very high. We are going to poke Iran with a stick to make matters worse for them. But we will not try to defeat them militarily and make them close ranks to fight us.

We beat the Soviet Union by bankrupting them and influencing their people to take control of their own country. The same thing will work with Iran.

If we lean on Iran economically and keep the saber rattling to a minimum we will benefit the greatest. We have nothing to gain and everything to lose by fighting another war in the middle east. Iran is no threat to us and they know this. Red is correct that Iran's tough talk is intended to keep themselves in power. Our best option militarily and economically is to keep the rhetoric to a minimum and do our level best to keep Israel from doing something rash. Our feeble recovery can ill afford another war in an oil producing country. This should be an even better reason for us to expedite our transition to natural gas as soon as possible.
