I watched the press conference. To see him stand up, and meet with his team, Then AT USC, hold a press conference thanking the school, the players and coaches for his time there. Then fielding questions, and to top it off say he is contacting the current USC recruits to try to talk them in to staying committed. Shows a ton for me.

Say what you want about Pete Carroll but the fact he did that today. Shows some character.

He left the right way, even if the rumor is he is getting out now before the hammer falls.

Didn't see the presser, and that sounds nice... but what about the last few days of not telling anybody what was going on... especially with all the national speculation and news going around... right in the middle of the Army All-American game no less. The right way to have handled that would have been upfront the whole time, especially to the recruits, players and his coaching staff, instead of waiting until today, no?

According to Sports Illustrated: here's another problem Pete was dealing with:

54-year-old Alaric Valentin sued USC because of how he got in a car wreck with one of Pete's assistant coaches that was driving while wasted, and they allege Pete knew about the coach's drug addiction before the car crash.

The lawsuit is just one of the problems now besetting Carroll, once the darling of college football. A home loss to Arizona, followed by a victory over Boston College in the Emerald Bowl ended the Trojans' worst season (9-4) since Carroll took over at USC in 2001, and was followed by allegations that his star running back, Joe McKnight, had been driving a Land Rover owned by a local businessman (McKnight and USC have denied any wrongdoing). This on top of the lingering NCAA investigation into improper benefits allegedly given to former Trojans star Reggie Bush, which, along with several disciplinary matters during Carroll's reign, has contributed to the belief among some that Carroll has had as much control of his program as Watson had of his SUV. Carroll has been annually courted by the NFL, but the recent problems at USC, on and off the field, are believed to be a major reason he left USC on Monday to become the Seattle Seahawks' head coach.

Justed watched the first half of it. To anybody that wants to see it, the link is below. First time I saw a Pete Carroll presser. That guy is charming as hell and knows how to say all the right things and say them well. But I know plenty of people that can do that. Before I figured he was just telling everybody what they wanted to hear, it was cool seeing how he gave all the credit to the great players he had for all the great years he had at USC, instead of taking any credit for himself. It was also cool seeing how he said that everything was great between him and the USC AD Garrett, and that was the truth. As for the NCAA sanctions, he pretty much dodged that, so it makes it seem that might have been the biggest reason he left. Of course, many LSU fans won't like to hear the part about how special it was to almost win a "third straight national championship" before losing to Texas and Vince Young.

Honest or not, charming people are well-liked, so that is nice about Pete. And I saw some special about how Pete does charity work in the hood of Los Angeles and I do sincerely respect that about him.

In his presser today, Pete Carroll took a good-natured/polite jab right back at Sanchez for what he said:

Said something about how a year ago he was standing on the same podium talking about Mark leaving for the pros and how the other day Mark was giving him a hard time about it, then said:"I want Mark to know that I did graduate, so at least my family is happy about that."

    At the 5:55 mark:

I guess my point any coach leaving on their own will for a different job is always looked at poorly.
We had a coach who's multiple departures are a text book example of what NOT to do. Regardless of the issues at USC. I thought it showed some stones to have a press conference at USC, meet with his team, meet with the media, and basically say USC gave everything to him, they made him the coach he is, and the players deserve all the credit.

needless to say one of our former coaches was a text book example of how not to do it, and not just at LSU but everywhere else he has been.

That's because most people are far to sensitive. All a coach really owes is a face to face with his team to break the news. That's it. Petey screwed up there.

Yeh that is my point he did exactly that. He had a team meeting AT USC, then when he did that he had a press conference AT USC.
So he didnt screw up. He did what you are supposed to do.
As for all the "News" etc. he cannot control that. Someone probably leaked it in Seattle and he had no control over it. So him not saying anything was also the right thing to do.

Bottom line he left the right way in my opinion.
