Maybe it is just me, but I think the USC program has made Carroll look like a better coach than he actually is and if he winds up going to the Seattle Seahawks, Carroll will get exposed as nothing more than an average NFL head coach.
Charley Casserly, a 16-year veteran NFL General Manager and 24-year veteran NFL executive, thinks that: The NCAA turned down USC’s request to self-impose sanctions and restrictions on the school’s football program, which may have hastened Pete Carroll’s departure to the Seattle Seahawks, CBS NFL insider Charley Casserly reported on The NFL Today pregame show. The new reports are that Carroll won't get total authority over the Seahawks like originally thought, and: The NCAA’s decision may have been a factor in Carroll lessening his demand of having complete control of an organization’s football operations before agreeing to coach an NFL team, Casserly believes. ... Carroll, according to Casserly, will have authority over the Seahawks’ 53-man roster. The [new] GM will have authority over the draft. In light of the Carroll-to-Seattle news, I saw a couple USC fans starting to doubt their faith in the Pac 10 compared to the SEC Is the NFL just the first step for Pete...so many NFL coaches have bolted for a coaching job in the SEC, I have to wonder if CPC will not also end up in the SEC too Since Pete is not king of college football do you think he's over it? I think playing in the Pac 10 sucks too. Why if you were a good head coach would you want to play in the Pac 10 and never get in a National championship game because your conference sucks? I hate the Pac 10. People just don't care like the SEC..

Speaking of Sanchez, he took a good-natured swipe at Carroll after he led the Jets to victory in the first game of the playoffs... "Speaking of Coach Carroll, I just want everyone to know, I completely disagree with his decision [laughter] to go to the NFL. Statistics show that its not a good choice," Sanchez said with a big smile." Here's the video clip of it: Sanchez needles Carroll for going pro | ProFootballTalk.com
I saw that and thought that was very clever. On Pete Carroll... The USC program made Pete Carroll, who will return to also-ran status as an NFL head coach. He'll probably mirror Nick Saban's NFL experience and after 2-3 years get signed to a ridiculous contract by a tier one NCAA school that may be looking for a head coach then. Maybe Rich Rodriguez will have worn out his welcome at Michigan, Michigan convinces Miles to come home, and LSU offers Carroll a chance to resurrect his reputation in the NCAA. Stranger things have happened.
it was clever. im not so sure the swipe was "good natured" tho but as a polite "f' you". and i dont think i would want carroll. he pretty much had the pac one to himself and still managed meltdowns. i think he's a great self promoter, but i just dont care for him as a coach. not to mention, i would always be waiting for something to come out to embarrass the university and cause sanctions.
Carroll officially resigned to take the Seattle job this morning. Pete Carroll confirms he's leaving USC to become Seahawks head coach - The Huddle: Football News from the NFL - USATODAY.com He claims it's not because of the NCAA investigation but I have a feeling they are going down.
