Yep, the contract is making him the highest paid guard in the league. Hard to blame him for taking it
Second time in 4 years the Bucs have signed away one of our starters and made him the highest paid at his position (Jeff Faine). Best of luck to him. Sounds like they were anticipating this when they brought in Grubbs from Baltimore, and it would seem he is the best choice on the open market if we have to lose Nicks. Hopefully this also means we have more cap room to pay Brees.
this is a huge blow to our OL obviously Nicks got a five-year, $47.5 million contract with $31 million in guarantees per Adam Schefter. This deal represents the richest deal for a guard in the NFL, but Nicks may be worth it: he is arguably the best offensive guard in the league. Hopefully this results in Brees telling his agent to lower his outrageous asking price so we have some money to fill the holes on our OL to keep Brees from eating grass all next season and beyond
yep, double whammie or even triple whammie. losing Nicks hurts us even if he goes to a team we never play, but by going to a division rival that we face twice a year, not only do the Bucs make their offense better against us by adding Nicks, but they make their D better against us by removing him from our OL, and the Bucs have been loading up on DL last I checked. it wasn't long ago when the Bucs D with Kiffin and a highly athletic D line made Brees look like a 3rd-rate QB when we faced them
he's visiting with us today, but he's looking to get paid the big bucks per ESPN: The Ravens tried to re-sign Grubbs before he hit free agency, but he knew the demand would be high in free agency. Grubbs is expected to surpass the five-year, $32 million contract given last year to Ravens guard Marshal Yanda . per NFL.com: The Ravens had what they thought was a competitive offer on the table for Grubbs about a week before free agency. They were willing to take him close to the five-year, $32 million deal (around $6.5M annually) they gave stud guard Marshal Yanda a year ago. Grubbs believed he could push $8 million on the open market, and now Nicks has pushed $9 million.
