Capital One Bowl may be in trouble | The Hlog, by Cedar Rapids Gazette Sports Columnist Mike Hlas The place is a dump.
And the Champs Sports Bowl, according to your link. That's 2 New Year's Day bowls that match SEC and Big 10. I know most people feel there are too many bowls, so the loss of 2 is not a disaster. But 2 NYD mid-majors? If it happens, it will be interesting to see if 2 minor bowls can step up and fill the void. Remember, the Fiesta was a minor bowl until the fates opened up a shot at hosting a #1 vs #2 game in '87. They got to work, put together the money, and the rest is history.
If we had to lose ties with a bowl, I would vote for the SEC West-hating Outhouse Bowl! I enjoyed going to Orlando for the bowl but the stadium was pretty bad.
I kinda thought it was an incredible place when I first played my first game there in Jr. High. Enjoyed watching my old coach play DB for the Orlando Panthers pro team. Of course it was know as the Tangerine bowl then. I guess it could have changed some, the neighborhood wasn't a great place even back then.
The article stated it may be 10 years before they can get the revenue to renovate because of the nosedive in tourist tax revenue. I went to Disney just after New Year's and it was packed.
