o is leading you somewhere alright.... kind of funny that the problem with les was that he wouldn't let his oc work without interference and that he was too loyal to his assistants but since o is "one of us" that that sh!t is acceptable.....got it
I disagree. I think what you describe was a strength of Les'. His problem was giving too much input into the offensive strategy developed that week, and his meddling during the game. That's when he should have been more hands off and let his OC do his job. To me, the difference with O, minus the Troy game, is that he wants a certain philosophy, but hopefully plans to be hands off compared to Les in the minutia part.
It isn’t statistically better than Les Miles? Are you sure? Anyway, if it passes the eye test, that’s still a big improvement over Miles’ cow patty offense.
so in all of the prep and study o did in evaluation of potential oc's, he somehow overlooked that Canada's philosophy and his didn't exactly mesh? really?
I heard on the radio this morning that O wants to run a offense like what was run when he was at USC. Doesn't that differ from what he said when he was awarded the head coaching gig permanently? If that is the case, wouldn't his wishy-washy mindset about what he wants out of his offense be a roadblock for a offensive coordinator?
I think once it was clear Kiffen wasn't an option, Oeaux wanted to make a splash and bring in the Offensive Coordinator of the Year. Plus, as others have pointed out, he may have been pressured by Alleva, too. Who knows? I'm an outsider guessing, but I think Oeaux's approach sounds philosophically different than CLM, both in the direction he wants the offense to go, and in his gametime meddling. For me, that is a good thing. He came to realize once Canada was on board that he made a mistake hiring him. May as well cut bait sooner than later if you feel that way if you are the HC.
I still have hope that we’re going to spend money to get someone good; if it’s Ensminger, I’ll feel similar to what I did with Eaux - wait and see, maybe the old dog still has bite. But there is at least some indication that there are parties interested in matching A&M’s intensity.
Ensminger did a great job last year taking over after Cameron was fired. My only reservation is that he said he doesn't want the job. I want someone as OC who WANTS to be there.
Hopefully, that was then, and this is now. I don't think Ensminger would allow himself to be a candidate at this point if he didn't actually want to be. That is a different mindset than he likely had when he was asked to take it over for the remainder of last season where he would "do it for LSU, and for the team" for a short period. If he didn't truly want it, I assume he would let Oeaux know that upfront and not allow himself to be considered to begin with. Personally, my biggest concern is can he step it up on the big stage when needed? Clearly, LSUs offense was phenomenal against the subpar to average, and even above average teams last year. But, when we played elite teams, i.e. Bama, FLA, etc, we didn't look the same. Was that the talent we were playing against, injuries, or was it game-planning appropriately, play calling, etc? Don't know. Can only hope. Otherwise, I think Ensminger may be a lot better than others realize, and just needs the opportunity. Hopefully, Oeaux's assessment and impression of him is accurate and he unearths a gem.
