There was a predictable patten that the gumps recognized and committed too. Canada should have adjusted.
I disagree. LSU wins that game last night if we have a legit playmaker like Jalen Hurts at qb. Danny just isn't that. In fact other than lack of depth this is only difference I saw in these 2 teams. Alabama has difference maker at qb and LSU has a serviceable guy who may win some games but isn't going to win any titles. I was actually kind of impressed with LSU considering what they were up against, on the road.
The other side of that coin is that LSU wins if the D could have contained Hurts in the pocket. Easier said than done but our D played great. It was good to see Arden Key back in fill form.
It's not just the longball, there was a bunch of underneath stuff that was open on playaction and Danny just kept throwing it deep. That's probably why he was benched. He missed a bunch of open receivers and that panic mode he went into on 2 straight plays last night on blitzes was comical. I'm interested to see if Narcisse gives Brennan a run next season.
I don't know whether it was an actual benching of Etling rather than a late roll of the dice to see if Brennan could make a miracle happen late. I like the move. I wish Miles would have rolled the dice in the second half on 1/9/2012 with Lee or even Mettenberger. Like Bob Dylan said, "When you ain't got nothing you got nothing to lose."
For all the media love of Hurts, the guy is an avg passer at best. Its telling that more often than not they don't trust him to throw on third and long but instead rely on his legs.
He was putting some balls into some tight windows last night and looked like a pretty good passer to me. The only incompletes I remember were because his receivers dropped passes.
I thought our defensive backfield was a disappointment last night. They needed to come up big and certainly did not do that.
Canada could have been better, but the game plan was certainly an improvement from what we tried to do against Bama in previous years. I know, Koko the gorilla could have come up with a better game plan. Canada is still limited by the offensive talent. Etling gives it his all, but he is limited by his arm strength. Receivers have to do a better job of getting open as well. The line was better than I thought it would be, but still not good enough to get it done against Saban's scheming.
