Yeah. Election year politics are a different animal. A side note: US Senate Republicans let the Immigration Reform Bill pass knowing it is dead in the House but it is not on their hands. They road block the minimum wage bill because there is still enough debate to hold their stance. It is a game of chess until November.
I think it was a weak argument. The bill was going to make a single specific Bible, the first book ever published in Louisiana the state book. Had it been The Cave by Plato nobody would have cared. Most people can't get their faux outrage right
