Then why did he play Harris against Auburn? You can't tell me that he just said, ya know what, fuck Baton Rouge, I'm gonna throw this kid out there to fail so we can get drilled in the asshole like Rachel Starr just to shut the fanbase up. You don't learn the offense in the game, you learn it in practice and studying it in your off time.

you learn the plays in practice. you learn game speed and how to react to it in the game only. game reps is the only seasoning thats going to improve harris. watching tape with no reps will not.

you answered your own question long ago. he tried to give harris a shot one game in auburn but got scared because harris was bad. as sane people expected (not me). he was scared to play harris after the jlee debacle that you often reference. this much is true.

so les goes back to what hes comfortable with. jennings (jefferson).

and he coaches mostly not to lose and has for some time now.

its not some big mystery. but its not winning football.

Well I don't see it getting better with either guy. We pull South Carolina and Florida from the East, if Dak Prescott stays LSU is potentially looking at a big fat goose egg in SEC play next year, and since all of Miles other streaks have fallen, he's bound to have that regular season OOC streak snapped as well, even though it looks like a bunch of rent a wins. This reminds me of a few Dinardo years where Gerry had a good amount of wins, absolutely loaded with talent, but vastly underperforming.

doesnt matter if you see it getting better. theres no reason sticking with the shitty status quo. but he will. the fact you saw harris start one game and write him off leads credence to les' same fears. its stupid. do anything else. doesnt matter.

should have primed harris or at least gotten enough reps to run what kelly did today to have both prepared.

now we have no passers ready for next year. none. we had a chance for one. so of course we have little chance to win against similarly talented teams. our fear of developing a passing game continues to be the achilles heel.

Jennings is DEAD LAST in the SEC.

How on earth would allowing Harris more reps HURT?

One more time, let's take a look at the two QBs side by side:

    Spring Game:
    Brandon Harris: 11-of-28, 205 YDS, 2 TD (6 for 76 YDS Rushing, 1 TD)
    Anthony Jennings: 9-of-17, 157 YDS, 1 TD, 2 INT (Pick 6s)

Jennings had one year in the system. Harris obviously doesn't know the playbook.

    Wisconsin:
    Jennings: 9-21, 239 YDS, 2 TD (9 for 19 YDS Rushing 2 Sacks)
Harris: no passing stats (2 for -11 rushing 1 Sack)

    Sam Houston State
    Jennings: 7-13, 188 YDS, 3 TD (8 for 43 YDS Rushing)
    Harris: 4-5, 62 YDS, 1 TD (5 for 53 YDS Rushing, 1 TD, 1 Sack)

    ULM
    Jennings: 11-18, 139 YDS, 1 INT (7 for 20 YDS Rushing, 2 Sacks)
    Harris: 1-2, 14 YDS (2 for 11 YDS Rushing)

    Miss St.
    Jennings: 13-26, 157 YDS (11 for 6 YDS Rushing, 3 Sacks)
    Harris: 6-9, 140 YDS, 2 TD (2 for 19 YDS Rushing)

    New Mexico St
    Jennings: 2-5, 11 YDS, 2 INT (3 for 9 YDS Rushing, 1 Sack)
    Harris: 11-14, 178 YDS 3 TD (5 for 36 YDS Rushing, 2 TD)

    Auburn
    Jennings: 5-10, 84 YDS (2 for 7 YDS Rushing)
    Harris: 3-14, 58 YDS (8 for 36 Rushing, 1 Sack)

Harris played terrible in this game but so did AJ. After the Auburn game, Harris throws one final pass in the Kentucky game and effectively sits the bench for the year. Up to the Auburn game, I see Harris improving, getting better which AJ has failed to do all season. I see nothing here to indicate that Harris is a head case and doesn't understand the playbook. He is raw as most rookies are but had Harris gotten the reps that AJ did this year, I think we would be seeing a marked improvement at the QB position.

    YTD Cumulative
    Jennings: 111-227, 1611 YDS, 11 TD, 7 INT, 118.3 Eff (108 for 292 Rushing, 19 sacks)
    Harris: 25-42, 452 YDS, 6 TD, 2 INT, 175.0 Eff (26 for 159 Rushing, 3 TD, 3 Sacks)
LSU: Raw QBR 34.7, Rank 114th
Jennings: Raw 33.5, Total QBR 46.2,
Harris: Raw QBR 57.8, Total QBR 66.0,

AJ ranked 96th in QB efficiency, 13th in the SEC only ahead of UFs Driskell.

Maybe Harris is lazy and doesn't put forth the effort.

"When he walks into the huddle and it's a pass play, he'll tell us, 'Just give me three seconds' and that fires me up," said senior offensive tackle La'el Collins. "'Cause I'm like, 'Dude I'll block for you for 10.' A guy like that that's going to do everything he can to get that ball moving with great confidence. He has everything that you want out of a quarterback."

    nola.com:
The self-confidence in his ability has only grown since then and with a summer of reps in the books, Harris believes he has a full grasp of the complex offense LSU runs under second-year offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.

But Harris didn't do it by himself, according to his teammates he became a sponge, learning anything and everything he could from the veteran players around him.

Harris said the relationship he has developed with veteran quarterback Brad Kragthorpe has been crucial to his progression as a quarterback. Kragthorpe has become his mentor off the field, helping Harris with the mental side of the game freshmen quarterbacks can struggle with in their inaugural seasons.

"Being kind of a veteran quarterback in the room, I'm the oldest guy. Him being a freshman I think it's any veterans role to try and bring him along as much as we can," Kragthorpe said. "I mean, the easy part is, he's hungry to learn, he wants to become the best possible quarterback he can be. So I'm happy to be his mentor."

Harris' work ethic during those summer and fall practices to learn the playbook and as much football as he could impressed his veteran teammates.

"He's very coachable, anything that coach tells him it's 'Okay, coach' or 'Yes, sir' and he gets it done," Collins said. "He wants to repeat the play, if he feels like there is something he needs to see again, he wants to repeat the play. He wants to get it right and that's what I love about him."

    collegespun.com:
A group of freshmen, led by quarterback Brandon Harris, running back Leonard Fournette, and wide receiver Malachi Dupree, have been practicing on their own, late at night. The work ethic is inspiring to their teammates.

#LSU star OT La’el Collins said seeing FR group led by Brandon Harris, Malachi Dupre & Fournette running routes, etc at 9 pm inspires him.

La’el Collins on #LSU FR: “I’ve never seen a group of young guys work so hard. They inspire me to get some extra work in. It excites me.”

As tirk said, we have a QB. He is sitting on the bench. If Harris is a head case maybe it's because he is putting in the work, being told he'll get in a game at some point (sound familiar?) and ultimately ignored. Why? Because Miles has his handoff QB and that's that. QB position settled regardless of the outcome on the field.

Well, something is the problem. You also see nothing that indicates Harris is particularly good. Jennings outplayed him in every game except the one where he was pulled in the first quarter and Harris feasted on an overmatched cupcake team. He was dreadful against SEC competition, not that Jennings was much better.

This is the crap that I can't buy . . . the notion that Miles doesn't want to play his best quarterback or that he is determined to not play the guy he just signed last year.

Right, it can't be Miles' antiquated offensive philosophy so it must be because Harris sucks. Pumpers, like the rest of us, can't imagine why Harris didn't see more playing time so they must invent reasons why Harris isn't up to snuff. Can't be the coach.

I saw him and did not think he was ready , to be honest he never will be . I had to clear about a half of a page , it does not matter . We are stuck with what we have .That is why I say next season will not be as good as this season , I know that you saw the game that I saw , You are right about losing our best assistant coach and strongpoint of the team another reason we will not have as good of a season as we have had this season . You are dreaming about our QB's we do not have one !
