Was asked on an Auburn forum with some interesting answers. Scout.com: Can uga challenge the West champ? I say we still beat them by 20.
Ultimately no. It may be interesting up until early in the 3rd but the LSU defense will get those couple of critical turnovers to make this a comfortable win by LSU (17-21 point win).
For some reason Georgia is the team that worries me the most about any East Division team. They have a good coach, they have recruited top talent. On any given day they might put it all together and take us down . . . especially in the Georgia Dome.
I'm still claiming UGA is somewhat inflated this season. I know Auburn was ranked 20th...but from the start, week 1 vs Utah St., Auburn has NOT looked like a top 25 team let alone defending "champ". They are overrated this season. Having said that, UGA has played exactly TWO top 25 teams not including Auburn (Boise and So. Car) and lost both. They inflated their stats vs COASTAL CAROLINA and NMSU. They don't play Arkansas. They don't play Bama. They beat a struggling Tenn by 8. They beat a mediocre Florida by 4. They only beat VANDY by 5. They have Kentucky (oh goodness!) and and struggling GT team left to close out the season. Bottom line: NOT an impressive "body of work" if you ask me. Are they capable of showing up and playing "lights out" for one game? Sure. But no more than anyone else in the conference. UGA is a distant 5th place team in the SEC this year behind LSU, Bama, Arkansas and So Carolina.
Yes, they did, but the extenuating circumstance in that whole situation was the Katrina fatigue factor for our guys. We came out refreshed later in the month and murdered Miami (who has yet to recover from that beating), and UGA was embarrassed in the Sugar Bowl by WVU. All that being said, I'd prefer to play South Carolina because they are really poor, but I don't think that UGA is in the same class as we are (thanks to Danielson for that fun catch phrase.)
I just hope our guys can keep the focus these last two games to make it to Atlanta, got to be hard to keep up the intensity with LSU having played so many big games already this year. Is it a foregone conclusion that GA has won the east? Are there two weeks between the end of the regular season and the SEC championship game or is it the week after Arkansas?
Ga is playing better as the year has gone on. Each game they get more confidence. It won't be an easy game. We will win if our defense plays like they did in the other big games this year. It's our defense that wins our games and I don't know if we have the offense to save the game if our defense has a bad night.
