8-9 in the box is going to make any OL look bad... Crowton telegraphs everything, very hard for an OL to handle the defense, when the defense knows exactly what you are going to do. There was plenty more to story than a bad OL, heck Les said that was the strength of the team last year. If the offense doesn't burn some teams early on 1st down this year, it's going to be increasingly hard for Ridley or whoever they put back there. Now on the plus side, I feel much better with Ridley and Ford than I do with Scott. Whether Crowton uses them correctly remains to be seen... I like some of the changes I saw in the Spring game by Crowton, but when I hear Les say we need to RUN, RUN, RUN I am really down to just laughing now. Some easy fixes to improve the offense. 1.) No more telegraphing plays with player substitutions. Anyone in the game should be able to run 95% of the offense, if they can't, they shouldn't be in there.... a few plays for specific players is ok, but it shouldn't be the focus of your offense. 2.) No more to the side lines crap, Crowton is not a genius, stop playing these stupid games... call the play, if there has to be change the QB can do it at the line. 3.) If the other team is playing 8-9 in the box on 1st and 2nd, you really are going to have a hard time running over tackle... duh. 4.) Stop with the Jefferson option plays... he looks horrible. 5.) Stop the option plays to the short side of the field... this is FOOTBALL 101 stuff. 6.) There is only so many WR screens you can run in a game. 7.) No more sending 4 WRs deep with no dump off routes.... that is an impossible situation for the QB.
Great analysis. Now it's time for the paid coaches to actually coach the team. We will see what they have come up with soon enough.
Well, I am somewhat encouraged by some of the changes I saw in the Spring game, at least if you do those things you are giving the players an even footing to fail on their own. That is really all a coach can do... give the players a level field to compete... unfortunately I don't think the coaches have done that the last 2 years. We'll see.. even with the changes I think LSU will somewhat struggle but any improvement will help greatly... even if LSU can move to the middle of the pack in the SEC on offense will greatly improve the environment. I think if LSU can move to the middle of the pack on offense and get pressure on the opposing QBs on defense on 3rd down... you are than looking at a top 10 team. IMHO
If we line up with a fullback (who hasn't emerged yet after 2 years) and pound the middle, we won't move it against UNC. Except in short-yardage situations, I expect to see more single-back sets this season. No one will load the box on us with four receivers running downfield patterns and a back loose in the flat. It's not necessary to take a shot at Les on every post, you know. It gets old. Those who know anything about football, know that LSU had a severe running problem last year. We must have a balanced offense in the SEC and than means we must RUN the football more and better. This is good news that Les understands this. A team must be able to run the ball to control the clock and keep the opponents offense off the field. Jimbo's offenses were fabulous at passing to a lead and then running the ball to control the clock and protect a lead. If LSU cannot do this, we will not be contending for the SEC West. Being a balanced offense helps both passing and running. Being one-dimensional is a disaster in the SEC. When Les says he's going to run the ball more it doesn't mean that we won't be passing. Other than Shepard in the wildcat formation, I saw little play telegraphing last year. But we were too often in situations where we were forced to show pass because of the lack of a running game. Deception doesn't work when everyone knows you must pass. An effective running game cures many ills.
An even better analysis.:thumb: BTW, Welcome Back it must be nice to know you were missed and that people care enough to notice. I guess that is what happens when you are someone that makes a difference in the experience people have on this board.
Tell Les to stop being such as dumb ass. yes, because of terrible coaching and a terrible OC and trying to run into a 8-9 man front. Look, I told you and the others that stupid Scott **** wasn't going to work and it didn't. Let's not try and rewrite history into why this occurred. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DOMINATE RUNNING WITH 8-9 GUYS IN THE BOX AGAINST MOST SEC TEAMS. End of Story, I said it last summer and I will say it this summer. Hey you can keep pounding your head into a brick wall all you want... I am pretty sure you are just going keep getting headaches. The choices is LSU's. Sorry, if you run and telegraph on 1st and 2nd, 3rd down becomes very easy for the defense. Well you must be a relative of Crowton, because everyone else knew the play calls. - Shepard wildcat - Charles Scott on 1st and 2nd... right over tackle or center - K.. Williams either outside pitch/option or middle screen - Holliday... either sweep or late in the year Shepard option with Holiday on the sweep - 3rd down and long... another WR screen or basically sending everyone long with no dump off... watching Jefferson run around like a chicken with his eyes looking at the ground. Heck, we call the plays as soon as we see the player substitution. By the middle of last year, someone had even made a play call sheet if I remember correctly. AIN'T GOING TO WORK. HORRIBLE OFFENSE, A DC's WET DREAM. The only time there was any non-telegraph plays is when Williams and Scott went down and Ridley was in there... he was taking draws, pitches, screens, etc. Basically everything. Been watching this since 2007... you can see it from a mile and half away. The best is when Holiday would line up in the slot on the left side, we would all scream sweep right at the TV.
SIU.. your analysis was poor about the team but most importantly it was wrong about Scott. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROrIY31e7yE Don't make me laugh with the short side option crap. There's a very good reason to run that play but I'll let you google it for yourself. The problem is in the execution, not the play itself. I will give you a hint though.. it has to do with the number of defenders on the short side of the field.
So . . . LSU doesn't need a running game, is stupid to run the ball and should pass pass pass. That's what you are saying. Sorry coach, I can't take you seriously at all. :insane:
