Probably true, but with five ranked teams in the SEC West, there are going to be some of the finest teams in the country carrying a loss this year because the schedule forces us to beat each other up. It's why Boise and TCU's candy schedule should keep them out of the top 3.
Too many different scenarios to consider. I do think TCU and especially Boise State are really good football teams, and I respect the fact that they schedule tougher OOC games to help them get to a NCG. If they both end the year undefeated and there is a spot or two up for grabs in the BCSNCG on the line vs. an undefeated or one-loss Pac-10, Big 12, Big Ten or SEC, that is where a plus one or playoff system would be the way to decide who really deserves to win the championship. Until that happens, it's all just speculation.
Yep... we play/played six ranked teams this year... and 7 if NW beats MSU at home this week. As you know, ranked teams tend to come and go. I wonder if Florida or Arky have enough left to be in the top 25 when it's all said and done. Hell, with Wisc, MSU, and tOSU still on our schedule, we could finish ranked 5th or 35th. It's what makes the game fun...
Geez, I'm pullin' hard for the Tigers, but I just don't see how there will be an undefeated team in the SEC this year. LSU is looking at Bama, Aub. and AR, (although if Mallet can't go is a factor). That's a hell of a minefield to walk through. And Aub. still has LSU and Bama. Bama will be out of its mind for those games. I wouldn't bet a plug nickel on Aub. or LSU running the table.
Will an undefeated SEC champion be left out of the title game? No way, just don't see it happening. One-loss SEC champion? Don't know, depends on what else happens out in the big-wide world of college football? If there are three or more undefeateds out there besides (including Boise State and TCU) forget about it. If the carnage of this weekend continues going forward, maybe. We have to look at next week's game at Auburn as an elimination game concerning the national title race and maybe even the SEC championship. It is paramount to stay in control of our own destiny and leave nothing to chance.
Things are very different now. 2004 was a classic railroad job all the way, driven primarily by AP pollsters, sportswriters angrily determined to put USC in the national title game to "get it right" after 2003, all else be damned. Contrast to today: -AP poll no longer in the BCS formula -No team can really claim the mantle of "beloved media darling" that I can see -Four straight SEC national champs, plus the burgeoning reputation of the SEC, gives the conference and advantage in polling, even in down years. And I would say the SEC may not necessarily be down this year (maybe a little, but not by much). It's just different teams doing well. All the power is now in the West.
This is correct. Alabama is the only one who would argue for it as their loss was early enough in the season to kinda forget about. South Carolina seemingly about to fall apart again (on cue) is not helping the situation, however.
