Looks like there is some serious interest on both sides to get this deal done. However, I am split on if it would be a good decision for Calipari but considering the current competition in the SEC vs C-USA it looks to be a no brainer. He will have the top recruiting classes where ever he is. Also rumored that current Memphis commit Cousins, who LSU was after very hard, would join him in UK if a deal is made.
He should stay at Memphis and retire there. He has it made there and next year will definitely make it to the elite 8 maybe even the final 4
pretty much a done deal here in Memphis, he is making the dumb move to UK. He told the players it's the Notre Dame of basketball.
News station in Lexington is saying a deal has been reached for 8 years and $35M. Looks like he is bringing their Elite 8 hopes for next year with him. http://www.lex18.com/Global/story.asp?S=10096463&nav=menu203_4
He said a couple of days ago he wasnt interested. :rolleye33: Maybe what he wants to be remebered as is a great coach at a great basketball school :thumb:, even if he does have it made at Memphis. Pretty much walks on water over there.
Re: Calipari to UK? (its not over yet) this kinda reminds of when Saban was about to go to the Dolphins. There is a candlelight vigil out his house right now (supposedly). http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/mar/30/geoff-calkins-maneuvering-calipari-goes-overtime/
It will likely devastate the program. Not only will he take players that are a potential No. 1 recruiting class, but some bench players that were very important to the program may leave. It will set the program back.
