Just for fun I decided to see what these guys had to say about Crowton. Any of this sound familiar?

Full thread can be found here with more, including a nice timeline for BYU, Oregon and LSU that's a bit long to post here: LSU fan seeking info on Gary Crowton Very nice things to say about Gary Crowton the man, but as a coach...not so much.

A lot of this is rehash. BYU fans were screaming that LSU made a mistake hiring Crowton. There are links on the forum to blog written on this subject back in January 2007.

I called it the Mormon Prophecy which was fulfilled last year with the complete destruction of the offense. You either have a niche for the option or you don't at some point. You don't have to be super fast or athletic but you have to be able to make quick good decisions at the RIGHT TIME. I had no problem with the way LSU ran the option with Ryan in 2007, it was more a power formation. Jefferson nor Lee really has the tools to run the option in any form what so ever really.

At least he got out of running the option to the short side of the field 3-4 times a game, for that I owe the man a beer.

I don't know we need an all new thread on this though. I can't say I disagree with much in there either though.

I brought it up b/c of this lingering notion that somehow Crowton has never run an option before with QBs not equipped to run it, that somehow Les is "handcuffing" his playcalling and this isn't his offense. Les is no angel in this, but it's looking like he's responsible for the only element of the game working so far, which is running the football.

I'll agree with this. I'm still very concerned though.

Who cares? I read the quotes and they are as true today as they ever have been. I didn't know what to expect when I clicked this thread and I found myself agreeing with nearly every word written.

Exactly. Everyone want to believe so much that all of the play calling and such is 100% Les Miles and he is handcuffing Crowton, yet this follows Crowton's history quite closely.

Remember, almost all of us were guilty of screaming that Saban handcuffed Fisher each year. Same story, different coaches.

Are you denying the lab proven fact that Crowton is a offensive genius who, when not handcuffed by Les Miles, produces offenses so prolific that not even the NFL all century team could stop them?
