All of the other recruits visiting have already given pledges. Both of these guys have visits scheduled next week in Florida. I wonder what the odds are that we get a verbal with out them taking there next visit to Miami or FSU. Berry is already a soft commit to Miami, but with the shake up in coaching he may defect.
A Berry commitment might put the squeeze on our other safety recruits. Byrd might prove to be a critical commitment should he give his pledge considering that even if we land Tolliver like is expected, Bajoie won't be part of this class because of qualifying, and Benton still needs one point on his ACT to gain eligibility. Byrd may find himself ready to assume a larger role at LSU quicker than the other recruits in this class.
I agree, he has FSU scheduled next week but it is not unheard of for a recruit to give a verbal and blow off his next visit. I think we get him. Hopefully, we end up with Tolliver and either Byrd or Mason. I think Mason is a longer shot than Byrd.
I don't know if we will push for either's commitment this week. With Byrd, we may not want to scare Toliver off. With Berry, I think the other 3 safeties we're recruiting are probably rated higher on our boards, although he may be a little more versatile as far as playing CB. I don't see Berry coming to LSU.
A WR class consisting of: Toliver, Benton, Brooks and Byrd would certainly solidify the position for '07....and with Bajoie hopefully rejoining us down the road once he's qualified, we'll be in good shape. Another star WR or two in next year's class would keep our WR core strong.
