Can we roast a few peta/aclu/other folks while they lounge in their homes? Mike lives the good life. We need to find him a couple of lady Tigers to make life even better for him.
And that's what we've been talking about. The only way it would happen at LSU is if PETA took LSU to court and a judge sided with them. As Okie pointed out, all hell would break loose if it were discovered that the idea of dropping Mike started with the LSU brass. This would almost certainly result in a massive loss of alumni donations/contributions and merchandise revenue for the university. There would be enormous pressure on LSU administrators and the state legislators and attorney general's office to fight the ruling as far as it would go. Yes it would suck, but that's not what happened at Ole Miss. No judge forced them to get rid of Col. Reb. That was a voluntary decision made by the administration and a bow to political correctness. While I'm sure there's been quite a bit of uproar over the situation, it wouldn't rise to the level you'd see at LSU over getting rid of Mike, because in the case of Col. Reb, nobody wants to be seen as supporting what's perceived to be a racist symbol. Animal rights doesn't come close to matching that kind of political hot-button status.
and the donations to appeal something would tie it up for so long it my great grand kids (if i had kids) would still have mike. when pointed out that this tiger was bred in captivity, raised with humans, and has never known the wild, and cant be reintroduced to a place he never was to begin with because he would die and has to live out in captivity, i dont think anyone would make us get rid of him. we are saving an endangered species. i think as many conservation groups would weigh in as animal rights groups.
not only that, but i'm sure he lives better than most tigers in the world. he has his own friggin staff!!! if anything, he is a lot better off at LSU than anywhere else. the only thing that i'm against is them putting him in a little cage and bringing him into a friggin stadium with nearly 100k fans yelling. i know that they don't force him to get into the cage, it's only if he wants to, but still. i feel that that is a bit much. other than that, PETA can suck my...
Yep.. I read those (Bengal) tigers live about 12 years in the wild at best, whereas our mascots have made it to the mid-late teens (with the exception of Mike II). Mike I made it to 20. And think about how much better the care is for Mike now then way back then. And FWIW ColReb, I never call yall the Rebels anyway.. We got much better names for yall. :hihi: If they make us change ours I'm with Stevie on the Fightin' Choupique for our new name... has a nice ring to it.. lol
It will never happen for fear of people would be burned at the stake and fed to the gators, or in our case fed to the tiger. Mike himself would eat them alive.
I would never think of not having Mike the Tiger. After doing some research, most tigers live 8-10 years in the wild. It is better for a tiger in captivity. I am not saying that all tigers should be in captivity but Mike the Tiger has a better life than I do. MikeTheTiger.com
