that's definitely NOT indicative of how most LSU fans are when it comes to basketball... football, i can see that happening because there are a lot of fair-weather bandwagoners who probably couldn't name more than two or three players on the team. and quite honestly, i wouldn't be counting my chickens before they hatch in regards to LSU basketball right now. yes, they've played absolutely inspired ball at times this season, but at other times, it has been very painful to watch. good luck tomorrow!
So, did I call it or what? In all seriousness, AWESOME game. Just dramatic from beginning to end, and true battle. Every bit up to the billing. MT was the man, and Howard showed his stuff. I really think both schools got screwed on the seedings and the fact that these two ranked teams had to play each other in the first round is STILL annoying to me, but that's why these 8-9 match ups are so interesting. You guys will be awesome next year given how young you are and you've got your 6'11" guy coming in. LSU on the other hand will have to remember 2009 and look forward to 2010-11. :geauxtige:geauxtige:geauxtige LSU UNDER TRENT JOHNSON IS A DIFFERENT TEAM.
seems to me you left out johnson, which as far as i can tell from the box score, was the difference. he, more than anyone brought something extra.
Johnson played very good today - MUUUUUCH better than he has been playing. He even looked for the ball on offense which threw Butler a few times. But Thornton was incredible. 3-point bombs, spectacular drives while getting molested by Butler's players (and getting knocked out of the game for a bit), great D (forcing turnovers)... You name it, he did it. Whenever they would get close or take a 1-point lead, Thornton would drive or take a 3-pointer and make it. He was THE MAN. But it was a great team victory. Temple played great D, Mitchell played very good and was hitting shots, Terry Martin scored some timely points... We had good contributions today. I would agree though gumborue, he did (more than anyone) bring something extra. We're used to Thornton bringing it and he did again. But Johnson stepped up today. He did get handled down low often, but he didn't quit and kept making big plays as the game went on.
Great game guys... a true battle. Could have gone either way today. 1) Butler came out shell shocked. The freshmen lack of leaderhsip showed as LSU got off to a 9-1 lead. 2) Howard in foul trouble killed us. One or two was tick-tack, but can't complain... he has to play to how the game is being officiated. 3) LSU was hot. They were a much better shooting team than I expected. Not sure how today compared to the rest of the year. In any event they had great shooters who could create on their own and hit open shots. 4) We SUCK at free-throw shooting. Good news is we loose no one next year and gain 6-11 big man Andrew Smith. We will see you in the NCAA next year!!! Thanks for the hospitality and if you know where I can find LSUCajun who is invading our board let me know so I can punch him in the mouth!!!
Red Rover, Red Rover, send Andrew Smith on over. (we could use him). ps. We lose a lot of seniors from this team. We hope to see you next year, but with a general lack of respect for SEC teams nationally, if we don't repeat as SEC champs.... pps. Don't go away. Become an LSU fan (unless we go against you guys again)
I will be rooting for you guys the rest of this year for sure!!! I hate UNC so I hope some magic can happen Saturday!! If you shoot like you did yesterday you guys will be in the game the whole way.
I wouldn't say this was our best shooting game of the year - a solid game by us. We usually shoot pretty good away from the basket. Taz Mitchell and Thornton were assassins like usual. Chris Johnson brought more than usual, but he gets worked over like he did yesterday on a regular basis. Butler showed resolve keeping the game close as they did and they exploited our weakness inside as they should have.
